South College question

I do not have any first hand knowledge of South College. But I have heard they are expensive. You might want to check out the following nursing programs: Lincoln Memorial University, Roane State, Walter State, University of TN and TN Tech (LPN program ). Good Luck

If you're not looking for a BSN there are several community college schools that offer the AS. In fact Pellissippi is to start an AS 2010 Fall. Most upper level programs (meaning you've already got your pre-reqs met) start in the Fall and you need to apply in advance.

For the BSN option the only public program is UT all the rest, LMU, Tennessee Wesleyan, South College, etc. are private schools and therefore will cost more.

I haven't heard about South having money troubles and they are in fact accredited.

I currently attend South College and our nursing program is awesome. We have excellent instructors and we are most definitely accredited. One of the best attributes of South College is the class size. This fall we are only taking 24 new nursing students and 30 tops if they decide to take more. Compared to other schools we are more expensive but I have received a great education at this school. As far as other schools go, I heard that UT was taking price cuts and their programs were being cut back but I'm not 100% sure about that. Also, South is becoming more popular and our numbers are growing. In the past our nursing program has not been as competitive but that is slowly changing. I would highly recommend this school if you are seriously considering it. I hope this helped

I forgot to mention when our program starts! Traditionally our program has only started once a year, every fall. However, they are trying to get a program started in April as well since we are having more applicants.
Also, I noticed that you are concerned about the cost of a program. Personally, I am a penny pincher and paying extra for a great education is definitely worth it to me. I have some financial aid and student loans but with an education it should be expected. Definitely do your research and pick the school that is best all around.

If you are concerned about the ability to transfer credits, check with the institutions where you may one day choose to transfer. They will often have a link on their websites regarding any articulation agreements. My brother attended South College's radiography program. He moved within an hour and a half of Knoxville but was unable to transfer credits to the local community college offering a similar program. He did feel like he was getting a quality education there but now, he is back to square one. It's not unusual for nursing programs not to recognize education done at other programs before a level of completion. For instance, if you do an ADN then upgrade to a BSN, more schools will take the ADN classes. If you move half way through a program, few schools will accept any of the nursing credits. Pre-nursing classes could be done elsewhere to minimize costs. My brother's wife was attending Pellissipi at the same time he was at South. Her anatomy class was actually way better than his.
