nursing in and around Columbia

Can you tell me the best places to work and where not to go? Please include Pulaski and Lewisburg. Also is it hard to get into Tenn Tech for LPN training? Thanks to all who respond.

It's not too hard to get into TN Tech. Just stay away from the part time program at Shelbyville and the full time program at McMinnville.

Lightbulb tenn tech.
Well hello ladies I just had to reply because I'm a Pulaski Tenn Tech grad of the LPN program. I graduted in oct . of 2001 I belive. I used to have a beauty shop in Pulaski. I lived in Columbia and workrd at Lifecare. I really liked it there. I'm living in sw florida now and doing home health which is really neat. Right after u grad. from LPN school u should really get some med surg experience if at all possible. Maury Reg. would be a good spot. I have several friends that were happy there. I wonder if we know each other. Seeing as every one in Pulaski knows each other. We aretrying to get over the hurricanes here, so u can imagine how much fun that is. I wonder if I ever did your hair? Well hope to hear from ya soon. And if you go to TN, tech in Pulaski, get ready for MRS. Barnett, she's the director (I believe that is what they call her). She is a tough cookie, but a good instructor. Good luck

We have been down and looked around at some houses for sale around Lewisburg and south of Columbia. I have to be in the country as we always have a garden and I have chickens that I don't want to part with.
I do have my eye on Maury Regional and if things work out I intend to do the part-time program for RN later.
I am from the south and would like to get BELOW the Mason-Dixon line again, this time to stay.
Thanks for your advice.

Default moving to lewisburg
I am also moving to lewisburg. I am seriously considering ER or CCU at Maury Regional. I have also seen an ER position at marshall medical center. I am a little scared because it sounds like one rn, a dr, and a tech staff it there! How do you run a code?!!! Maybe I just need to check it out though firsthand. I am an Rn...I have been for 10 years but even still, I am afraid of hanging out there in the wind!! Wanda, maybe we will be neighbors. I am just now looking at a house in Middle Marshall county area. Near Henry Horton. I hear there are coyotes so keep your chickens under guard. I love chickens too. They can be so sweet. My sister had a hen and she always had fresh eggs and her hen followed her around. One day a fox got her and my sister was horribly crushed!!
I would love to hear more about Lewisburg and nearby hospitals, nursing opps in the area. Anyone else out there?

Hi Tasycider, if you like country your gonna love that area. As far as the hospitals go if you like smaller hospitals then try pulaski(hillside hospital) or lewisburg(marshall medical I think). Maury Regional in columbia is very good. I don't think they use alot of lpn's though. I worked in Nashville at southern hills med. center. It has a great orientation program for new nurses. Pulaski is beautiful, my family lives there as I did for many years. You will love it. Best of luck and let us know if you have any other questions. Hey one question for you Why are you leaving florida???? I've only been here for a little over 2 yrs. but I love it, except fot hese stupid hurricanes.ha-ha

Default leaving Florida
The reason my family is leaving is that we are going to make a gold mine off the sale of our house, pay off all our debt, and buy a house near my brother-in-law and live simpler and get out of the rat race. My brother in law has a daughter about the same age as my own daughter. My husband and I see it as a chance to destress. I plan to vacation in Florida and be a tourist---I am looking forward to visiting. We think this small town and country living will be safer for our child to grow up in.

Best of luck to ya.. I think I'll also end up in that area again in a few years. I soooo miss the change of season. There is nowhere more beautiful to enjoy than in TN. I just have to get my fill of the beach(can't seem to get enough) but these hurricanes will chase me out of here in the next few years.

Default Maury Regional
Once I get moved in, Ill go to Maury Regional and interview and check it out. I will also go to Marshall Mecical center and see what the ER is like. Im a little curious. I would also like to see if there are any Labor and Delivery positions in the region. I have one year of experience doing that and I loved it. I have read on some web sites that the pay is OK relative to the cost of living.
Anyone else from the area?

Just remember lewisburg is a pretty small are(hence the very small, country hospital. If tyou want a bigger area columbia is quiet a bit bigger but still has that country feel. It is also much prettier. My husband & I own a house there(his parents are living in it). I love columbia, and nashville. I have friends in lewisburg and used to go theer all the time. There is a drive-in there that my friends & I used to love to take our kids to. Let us know how it goes. You can't really go wrong up there in Tn.
