New grad seeking Nashville ER job

by cagleea

Hello nurses! I'm moving to Tennessee this summer and looking for a facility that might hire new grads to work in the ER. I just finished up my last semester at Washington Hospital Center's ER here in D.C. but because of my husband's job in Nashville, I can't accept a position here. Does anyone know where I might find an ER that would consider hiring/training a new grad with one semester of ER experience and a serious desire to learn the ropes? Any info is much appreciated!

I would apply to all the major medical centers in Nashville. Try Vanderbilt, being a teaching hospital, they are receptive to new grads. I am a new grad who is starting the Pediatric Nurse Residency Program at Vandy childrens in July. New grads through the program have the opportunity to work in the peds ed. I believe Vandy would hire a new grad in the ER.

Hi,
I am from Jackson TN, graduating in December. DO you know the starting salary for new grads - RN in Nashville?

I will be maiking 17.25 base with $1 for critical care, night shift pays $3+ and weekends are $6 more. The base pay is lower than some of the other hospitals around Nashville, but with the night and weekend diffs, it is more than most. The average in the Nashville area is 18-23, starting out as a new grad.

I wanted to also mention that you could consider some of the ICUs Vanderbilt has as well for critical care experience. The MICU hires new grads and they VERY supportive there. I worked there having about 18 months previous experience but worked with new grads as well. I wish you best of luck. I felt like it was a good place to work and pretty good tuition benefits.

I do not know all the details about the internship at thr medical center, since I am going into the children's end of things. Call the nurse recruitment office. They can help you out with details. I used to know the number, but I don't have it anymore. You could find it on the website at www.vanderbilt.edu. Go to medical center link. You should be able to find the number there. As far as pay, it starts at a little over 18/hour. Then you would get night and weekend diff over that.
Good luck!

Southern hills medical center is a great hospital(atleast it was 3-4 yrs. ago). That is where I went right after graduation. Their orientation while cut short on me was great. Best of luck. I love florida but I sure miss gorgeous Tenn. and all those wonderful, freindly people.

Dear New Grad, Sounds like you are busy with much more imp stuff - but would you be interested in helping me to pilot a survey? The topic is "How satisfied are you with your nursing education and do you feel prepared for clinical practice with the education you have received?" If you are, let me know.
