SJonesRN,
I am sorry you are frustrated. Good luck in your interviews. I am not sure if Associates makes a difference because I have a Bachelors and I have had just as much trouble with the job search. It is really easy to start doubting yourself but I assure you that you made a great choice for a career. Yes it sucks right now but things will get better....at least that is what I am telling myself. Hang in there. Keep plugging away.

I think I've put out close to 300 applications and searched surrounding towns. It's really ridiculous. I'm so confused with this market! I'm keeping my fingers crossed and trying to jump the gun by applying my husband to jobs out in Nashville. I'd hate to move. We just bought a house in March... but man. I value being able to have my career over the house. I have a BSN, too, graduated Magna Cum Laude, ACLS and EKG certified, ICU externship, 3 yrs as a tech, EMT-B trained... etc, etc. Doesn't make a difference. In fact, as far as I can tell, one of the hospitals in town doesn't like to hire new grads with experience. You can't mold them the same, y'know?

I'll be out there the 6-11th. My interview's on the 7th. I got lucky. My husband was planning a vacation out there anyway. I'm surprised they take so many people out of state! It seems like that'd be a lot of effort, but I imagine it makes a difference when they don't pay for any one's relocation fees. The flight and hotel room, for at least the day of the interview, is all a write off, right? In the hopes of a job? As far as I know, my fees for the boards were a write off...

btw, grats on the passing the nclex! it's always such a weight off!

Wow this is just insane to hear all your interesting stories from around the nation. How sad is this country going to get. Hopefully it's all up hill from here. I graduated nursing school in May...so I'm going on five months outside of practice and am getting worried I'm going to forget all my schooling if something doesn't happen soon. I only have three links right now going for me, but I can't bank on anything. And it's pretty sad how we seem to all have to leave are own states to get anywhere.

Memphis also takes New grads? I've found a lot of places now won't take you unless you have 1 yr experience or enroll in a new grad program...

Your comments made me more hopeful. I've been really discouraged out in my area... so I'm really hoping I can get a spot at Vanderbilt

One of the hospitals just let about 39 students out of their contracts to work (the hospital ran their education and exchanged it for work time). So that was an additional 39 students without jobs to compete with for the maybe 18 positions at the only hiring hospital in town...
Memphis takes new grads. The positions will be advertised as "needs 1 year RN experience", but just apply anyway.

I really hope you all find jobs soon! I graduated in May and I am feeling so lucky and blessed to have my job! I know you will all find them eventually, but that doesn't make the hurt go away now! Good luck.

Thanks for the well wishes! I just went hunting for a new outfit for the interview and found something! I'm way excited and glad to finally have something to look forward to. I definitely have a bit more hope with this facility than I have with the ones in town. I interviewed for one position that had 20 interviews and 2 spots. 1:10 ratio! I had another that was 1:4... 16+ interviews. It's exhausting!

So fingers crossed... and prayers sent!

Just in case you didn't know and might be interested; St. Thomas Health Services has a Nurse Residency program. It's a 13 week program that I just completed. I interviewed for Vanderbilt's Program too, but wasn't hired. I haven't regretted it though. St. Thomas seems to be a great hospital so far and a good program. The class that just graduated was only their third class so their still making adjustments to the program.
