Considering a move

by Drey

Hello all. I currently am in an ADN program in Indiana and after I finish, I plan on moving somewhere a bit warmer with a better pay scale. A lot of my family is from TN, so it seems like a good choice. I am looking for a good hospital that has new grad program. I would love to find one that is specifically for the ER. I hear good things about Vandy. Anyway, I appreciate any ifo you have.

I like the Nashville area, but I'm not opposed to other areas. I'm definitely a big city person. Honestly, I just want a good hospital that will help develop me as a nurse. It really doesn't matter too much beyond that.

If you are a big city/town person, Nashville may be the place for you. Much of the population live in the suburbs and surrounding counties of Nashville but come to Nashville for work and entertainment. Knoxville is another town you may want to consider. It offers UT as the flagship campus and there is a UT Medical Center. It has a couple of other strong hospitals. Gatlinburg and Pidgeon Forge is about 30 miles up the road from Knoxville. Memphis is actually TN's largest town and it has a couple of strong hospitals there. I'm not sure about the universities there. I know one is part of the UT system and that's the University of TN Health Sciences Center. I'm not sure about the University of Memphis. I'm not that sold on Memphis though. It's a different environment than middle and east TN. I've met many people in Nashville that relocated from the Memphis area.

Thanks for the info. The more I look into it, the more I like Nashville. I keep hearing good things about Vandy. Anyone know anything about their new grad orientation? How long, what departments, good structure, etc.
