CNA or LPN programs in Knoxville - Where do I begin?

Hi Everyone! I'm new here and hopefully soon to be new to the medical field as well. I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on where to start. I was thinking since I don't have any experience yet that I could maybe do a CNA program first just to get the feel of everything. I checked into the LPN program at TTC (Knoxville) and it seems hard to get into. I'm really nervous about the Compass test since I only have my GED and I haven't been to school in 5 years. I don't want to set myself up for failure so do you think it's a good idea to start off as a CNA and work my way into it? Also, can I get any kind of financial aid for the CNA classes? I've read a little bit about the nursing homes that offer free CNA training but are there any in Knoxville that do that? Any advice or information is appreciated! Thank you!

Contact the LPN schools to find out whether or not they require a CNA certificate for entrance. Probably best to start with CNA, and start brushing up on math and English in preparation for nursing school entrance tests. Some phone calls to the various schools should get you the info you need. Good luck.
