Baptist or University of Memphis?

I applied/attend the University of Memphis and tried a couple of times to get into the nursing program and was not accepted. I decided that if I could not get in at Memphis I would go to Baptist. I took the HOBET and passed and about three days later Memphis called me and said that I was accepted to their nursing school. I do not know which one to go to and I have to make a choice by Monday and today is Friday. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything good or bad about either one and who as the better program (in your opinion)? Thanks for the help.

I guess I'm a little late but I'll respond anyways. I had to make sort of the same choice last yr (but included cbu/utmem and utknox) and i picked memphis. i wanted to go a "regular" college to get the full college experience (joining the student section "blue crew" for the football/basketball james, joining a frat, etc). Plus, when I get to clinicals, I'll be able to go to all of the area hospitals, so when I graduate I'll have a pref. of where I want to work. I know nursing school is hard at memphis but i'm sure it is everywhere. I'm only a freshman (provisionally accepeted) so I don't know everything. But either way, you'll still get a bsn.

I hope you chose Univ. of Memphis. I go there now and I'm finishing my second semester.

One tip, no matter what the instructors say, the SECOND semester is harder.

The first may have more classes and work, but they also guide you through more and even do a little hand holding.
Don't expect that the second semester. It's sink or swim!
PM me if you chose memphis and maybe I can help you out.

Good Luck with whichever you chose.

i know this post is late and may not help YOU but maybe someone else out there will get the message.... dont go to baptist!!!! the school turned out some wonderful nurses when it was a diploma program. however, somewhere along the way of changing over to a bsn program, they lost it!!!!! to put it nicely the program sucks!! not much clinical time. they concentrate on everything but clinicals. hello thats what you will be doing when you graduate. not sitting in an office doing management!!! anyway.... a local alternative is northwest in southaven, ms. yes i know it is an associate program, but they have a painless rn to bsn online program from univ of miss there on campus. cheaper than either memphis or baptist and much much better program!!! hope this post will help any future students in the area.

Why do you say that? I love the program. It has had a few rough spots, but nothing to run from.

I see some school policies and problems on here that are much worse.

dittos to CRNAsomeday. U of M is hard, but so far the admin has been good. I looked around before I went to U of M and like my choice. It really depends, too, on your goals and how fast you think you can go.

I work with several UofM grads and they are sharp! Great nurses.

My cousin is getting here pre-req's at Baptist and she seems pleased, but I have no knowledge of the program and have yet to meet a grad. Saw one once during clinicals try to draw up powder from vial that had not been reconstituted....after a few minutes of struggling, we finally said something to her. I'm sure it was HER and not the program.

Northwest is not in Southaven...the RN program is actually in Senatobia and it can be a drive depending on where you live. It is a two year program not a four year program if that is what you are seeking. But it is an amazing program. I graduate next week.

Bottom Line, all the schools in this area prepare you for the basics and you should choose the best school that fits your personality, interests, lifestyle and budget. The rest comes with OTJ experience. Good Luck!
