Athens, Knoxville & Chattanooga TN

Hey All..
Im thinking of possibly moving from AZ to TN. I would preferably want to live somewhere near Athens or McMinn county & attend like Lee U or something- but Knoxville & Chattanooga are also options- I just wanted to know from you all if you know what the wait list for any of these community colleges are with prerequisites completed & any other info I may need?
Thanks!
Laura

I'm from Chattanooga but not live near Knoxville. You are not going to have many job options in McMinn County/Athens. Chattanooga and Knoxville each have multiple hospitals.

As far as waitlist, there really aren't waitlists. Basically, it's a pointbased. If you have all of your pre-reqs and score high on the NET, you shouldn't have to wait. I got into Chattanooga State on my first try.

Knoxville has more nursing school options than Chattanooga.

BTW, each community college is different. I went to Chatt State and got into the program with all prereqs complete. I didn't accept the offer and years later I'm not having to take Statistics JUST to apply to Roane State's program. They require Math1150 or higher completed with a C before you can even apply to the nursing program.

You could look into Cleveland State, it's close to Lee. Lee is actually in Cleveland/Bradley County. But Tennessee Wesleyan is in Athens.

Good luck with your move. I love East Tennessee. Athens is halfway between Knoxville and Chattanooga but it's too rural for me. I live in Blount County. It's too rural for me as well. I grew up in Chattanooga city limits but in a suburb called Hixson.

I have been to Athens once, and that was to buy a car from the local police. From what I have seen it seems like a small rural area. I only live like 2 hours away from Knoxville, and Knoxville is a pretty fun city with lots of stuff to do.

Ive been to Athens before, so I know what thats like. It is pretty small!! Much different than here in Phoenix AZ!
Im thinking if I did move out there it would be in Cleveland.
So if anyone has any info about any community colleges there that would be awesome!
Thanks

Hi. I live here in good ole' Knox-Vegas!

There are a lot of choices as far as nursing school goes. You have for BSN: University of Tennessee, Tennessee Wesleyan, Lincoln Memorial University(RN, and RN-BSN),and Carson -Newman; for AS, there is Roane State, Walters State, Lincoln Memorial University. None of these schools has a wait list, they simply go by GPA and how much of your pre-reqs you have complete. Every school has different pre-reqs.

I am not sure how many pre-reqs you have done, but here is a link to all the schools, and what pre-reqs they require.

Good luck.

This might be silly but is the NET for all TN Nursing schools or just the Community Colleges?

Hi iwannabe,

I live in Knoxville, I've been here for about 8 months....moved from FL. I just begun looking into nursing schools here and I can say there are many options. As far as Knoxville itself, it is so wonderful here! We once looked into moving to Athens, but I'm glad we opted for Knoxville. There is so much to do here and if you have children its a great family place. Many opportunities here with education, activities, etc.... pretty much what ever you want is at your fingertips! You can live right in the middle of the action or you can live 10 minutes away and feel like you're deep in the country.

I wish you the best of luck!

We moved from FL to Knoxville in 2004 after hurricane Charley. We were in West Knoxville, by Concord Park. It was nice, but now we are in Sevier County. I love living here in the boonies, and was actually surprised by the educational opportunities for Nursing around here. I will finish my LPN to RN bridge here, and I can say that if I had to be dragged out of Florida kicking and screaming I am glad it was here! People are pretty darned nice here too! We still go to Knoxville for the healthcare, because I must say that it is just as good or better than what we were getting back home! Sorry so scattered, but choosing Knoxville was the best thing we ever did!

Oh, I agree 100%! I just love it here! We moved from Ft. Myers, and yes, we were affected by Charley as well....not so much as Punta Gorda, but it was enough. We also got hit by Wilma which was better only because it was in October and it was much cooler out! I personally couldn't leave FL fast enough! It just took us a while to get out...but we'd been trying since '04, after Charley.

I love Sevier county as well! It is so pretty through there. We camp in the mountains and it is so beautiful!
