Is anyone getting ready to take the CNA class in Knoxville?

by MDAD4

Hello! I am new to this site. I am looking to take the CNA class in Knoxville and I am trying to decide between the Red Cross or the TN Technology course. Is anyone else preparing to take this class at either of these locations any time soon?

Thanks!

Yesterday was my last day at TTCK, I take my state exam on Monday. If you go to the CNA forum, I've posted about my experience there. Overall, I'd say it was a good experience. The instructor annoyed me with the way he did some things but I think in the end it prepared us...at least I hope it did.

I looked into the Red Cross classes but ended up going with TTC. TTC is geared more toward nursing home work, you may want to see if Red Cross is any different.

Thanks Dee78! Good luck on your exam!! I was wondering what you meant by TTC is geared more towards nursing home work. Forgive me if it is a dumb question - this whole thing is new to me. I will check out your posts on the CNA forum. Thanks for all your help.

I took the CNA class at TTCK...same instructor who is a little bit of a stickler but you will pass the test. The Red Cross program is $800 and the TTCK program is $280 with the books. Mr J is a good guy and if you want to get on his good side, don't be a student who thinks that LPNs don't matter(he is one and several future RN students got thrown out because of that attitude) and tell him that you heard he had Snickers bars(do not tell him I told you this!) Trust me on this. Get your workbook and go ahead and do all the work...I worked on mine before I entered and had it done. Practice your blood pressure now and when he says to sing happy birthday twice when washing your hands you better do it because he is. I found him to be kind of a pain at first, but he is very professional and demands it from you. You should wear your white uniform with pride, clean and as he says. If he is talking, you better not be. When you go to clinicals you better be moving and doing. He has a very hard exterior but respects someone who takes the CNA role seriously. DO NOT say you are too good to wipe someone's behind. It was him that encouraged me to go on and become a LPN and it was him that told me at the end of that program that I needed to go farther than I was willing and one of the few who encouraged me to enroll into an RN program. Good luck!

Tennessee Tech's CNA program focuses on the role of a CNA in a nursing home.

I agree with everything you said about Mr J. He is a stickler. I was very careful not to make comments, I told him that I probably wouldn't work as a CNA but not because it was below me to wipe butts.

i am curently attending the red cross knoxville chapter night class. and the teacher is very scater brained and we have had some problem with her sleeping with a student which she also did in her last class and thier is extream favortism. however they do cover ALOT in the class and she generaly help everyone as much as possible as long as shes not in a bad mood. shes late often and rights you up when your late. and she dislikes smokers alot and descrminates against over wieght ppl being cnas cuz thier setting a bad example. but in the end if i had to do it all over i would. also the class size is like 27 students with one instructor and 4 hours of class a day.

Who was your instructor at Knoxville ARC?

I went through CNA training at the Knox-ARC a few years ago and found it to be a great experience. The program had nearly a 100% pass rate, and most of us had jobs with local hospitals before we even finished the program.

It was definitely on the expensive side, but well worth it, in my humble opinion.

I don't know who your instructor is, but it does not sound like the instructor that I had when I was there. I attended the Red Cross Program in Knoxville and I found it to be extremely professional and I felt very prepared when I left. To my knowledge, our class had a 100% pass rate for the State and everyone that wanted a job had one at the end of class.

To my knowledge, the Red Cross CNA program in Knoxville has a wonderful reputation. If you know these things to be true, report it to the administration. If true, I can't see them tolerating this behavior.

Lady Vol and RockytopRN2B when did you go to school at ARC? I took day classes with a tough lady, but really fun. I graduated in March of 2003. I loved ARC's program and I had a job before I graduated...I was told at that time that the reputation of their program usually meant a job right away if you went there and it was true for me!

I took mine in the summer of 2008. I saw jdpmjg89's comments about the Red Cross program and it really bugged me. I had a wonderful experience with them. I passed my State exam with flying colors and felt wonderfully prepared. I don't know who the instructor is now, but I took the night class and my instructor was wonderful!
