Hi Tess, I am a triage nurse working for an hmo with multiple centers in boston and suberbs for the last 15 yrs. I joined them in 1991 with 25 yrs of experience... which included a # of years in med surg, icu, ccu. I spent 12 yrs in Iv therapy, infusion , code team. Then..... 8 yrs in the ER( which I loved).Then... I had this offer from a friend to interview for an internal medicine position at this HMO... no weekends, no nights, no holidays. The rest is history.I was then.... a single mom of 3 children... teenagers at that time... no choice here.

We just negotiated for a step system... so I'm not really sure what step you may come in to here. The Hospitals are paid more Than we are... we have great benefits.. great time... so depends where your priorities are. Oncology and endoscopy nurses are paiD about 5.00 more/hr. Your step here would depend on your experience... as well as the number of years worked. So it could vary... but I would guess with 15 yrs.... and good experience 33-38 dollars per hr. Please know that this is just a rough guess. I hope that this is helpful. Best of luck!

Hi-do you work for HVMA? are you a member of the MNA?

How can you find a job like this? Any information would be appreciated.

Tess,

I have 16 years of nursing experience. I have worked in Neonatal ICU for ~ 8 years and then a pediatric telephone triage center for the last 8 years. We work in a call center setting at a children's hospital and take call for abour 100 pediatricians after office hours ( 5 pm- 9am durring the week and then 24 hour coverage on the weekend. We make $32-35.00/ hour then get a differential for nights addded to that and weekends) I hope this information helps.

To peditriage (or anyone else)

Are you able to say where you work? and what places do you have to go in to the call center vs. logging on computer and working from home.

What's about the salary do you want/

Specializes in tele triage/advice for 9 yrs.

I'm in a union and we make the same money as all the other nurses in the organization, including the hospital and outpt RNs. Working from home incurs expenses such as phone, internet, electricity etc that we have to pay for on our own, but you can't beat the commute:p

Intellicare starts new Nurses, no matter how much experience, at $21.00 per hour after you pay to travel to get training and food for 3 weeks, they do pay for your motel room. They have > 50% turnover post training.

I am an ICU RN in South Dakota. Can anyone direct me to a company who might hire nurses in my area for telephone triage positions? I would appreciate any leads you could provide. Thanks in advance...billswife
