I am so excited about this!!!!

  1. I just finished my first week of training for telephone triage. I have 3 more to go.

This is the answer to my prayers! :hatparty:

What a wonderful alternative....I can still use my nursing skills!

    CONGRATULATIONS, webbiedebbie

Now you should consider a certification as a Telephone Triage nurse.

Where do you work and how did you find this job? I'm looking for something a little less stressful than med/surg with better hours, well not better hours just less trouble during the holidays. The fav's always seem to get off what they want and the other of us take whats left like Christmas and Thanksgiving. :angryfire

Congrats ! and so glad you are happy.

I, too, am curious as to how this works.. all the details. Something I, too, might consider some years down the road as this body isn't getting any younger.

    Fill us in !

    Hi, jnette and Dutchgirl,

If ya'll are interested in a certification in this area, here is a link from the NCC that outlines what is covered on the exam and will give you an idea of what a Telephone Triage nurse does.....

    Thanks everyone!

Siri, I am thinking of becoming certified as you suggested and know it will take me two years before I can do it. The website is a little out of date, so I am hoping it will still be available when I am ready.

Dutchgirl, this job found me. I am working in a call center. I wanted to work from home, but they filled those positions last July. Doesn't matter right now anyway, I wanted to get in and when they are ready, I can work from home.

I hate that I am on nights again, but they are NOT 12-hour shifts. I took the 30-hour/week offered to me. They are looking to hire 6 more nurses for nights.

Jnette, it is indeed the best opportunity for me to stay in nursing. I am getting older and the 12-hour shifts are getting to be rough on me, especially since we have no ward secretary, rarely CNA, empty waste baskets, make beds, run to get ice waters, push monster computers from room to room, etc. I am grateful this opportunity is out there for nurses. I expect to see more of this as healthcare changes in the future.

I am especially looking forward to learning more.

Hello again. Yes, I know that was an outdated site, but, it was the only one with the info about what comprised the exam.

Here is the most recent site update for the exam given in '06. I am sure this exam will be around for quite a while.

    Congratulations!

Glad you have a job you enjoy, and the possibility down the road of working from home. Wish I lived closer to you - I'd be interested in that area of nursing as well.

Thanks, Siri for the updated one. Do I need to have my employer keep track of my hours? Is there a special form that they use? I will ask my training educator if there are others who are already certified.

I was once certified many years ago in OB and sat for the exam in Colo. Spgs. I really enjoyed doing it.

Also, is there a professional organization that I could join for telephonic triage nursing?

    Hello, webbiedebbie,

Not sure at this time about Telephone Triage Nurses organizations.

Normally you keep up with your hours. Since telephone triage is your primary job, this will be all you need. Just be sure your employer has your job title as such.
