When to start studying for TEAS?

Hi guys,

Right now I'm 90% done with all my prerequisite classes at a cc and am in the process of transferring to a new university in fall 2012. I'm planning on applying for nursing program spring 2013. I have never taken the TEAS so I am TOTALLY new to this, but I am freaking out because I heard so much about it! I attempted to do a practice test that I found online, but I was completely baffled &felt so dumb because I couldnt answer the math/ science questions:eek:!!

So I am seeking advice from you guys, since you're all so knowledgeable: When is a good time to start studying for the TEAS? When did you guys start? How long did you guys study until you first attempted the test?

Any suggestions/ comments/ expectations I should know for the confused individuals like me?!!

I just started to study from the ATI guide and I take the TEAS in 2 weeks.

Why don't you take a practice test first and see what you already know and what you don't know and need to study in order to get a good grade on the test? That way, you don't have to waste time learning things that you already know and just focus on what you really need to know.

Btw, I am taking my test in December and I started studying at the beginning of October :)

I just started to study from the ATI guide and I take the TEAS in 2 weeks.

By the way are you all done with your prerequisite classes? Do you think it will help if I'm done with all my prereqs before I take the test?

I started studying for the TEAS test in June, and was scheduled to take it on August 28th. I only used the TEAS study guide provided by ATI testing. The questions from the book were similarly phrased to the ones on the actual exam. They give you two practice tests at the end of the book.

My strategy was to review the whole book, take a timed exam and then based on the score, go back and review the sections I struggled with. I learned I made a lot of mistakes just from rushing. I ended up scoring an 82.9% on the actual exam. I wasn't too happy with my score, but I did get accepted into ASU's nursing program.

On a side note, I just remembered I bought the online practice tests too. Those were extremely beneficial, because once you are done, they break down every single portion of the exam. English is broken down into sentence structure, grammar, etc. I took that a few days before my TEAS test, and that was highly beneficial. I knew what areas I excelled in and shouldn't waste my time on vs. the areas I should focus on in my last minute studying.

I would start studying as soon as possible, which would be now! I honestly did not study, because I got into my nursing program last minute. I've also done really well on standardized tests, in general, and was pretty familiar with the math and science content. I suppose it depends on your school and their standards for admitting student to the program as to how well you must do. If you are struggling at all on the practice tests, then study as much and as early as possible; it will prepare you for nursing school!

Start studying NOW for the TEAS. Take an ATI practice test and see what you're lacking in first... then study in those areas, take a couple of ATI tests from the book from time to time and see where you understand the material... and keep studying!

can someone give some detailed info. in terms of the math...is it mostly measurement, order of operations for algebra, or....etc. etc.. thanks!!

I am in the SAME boat! I have to have take TEAS in order to do my admissions interview, and I have to have my interview completed by the Spring 2013 application deadline of February 15. I should be getting ready to take it in December/January and I haven't even looked at study materials yet. :/ My plan is to schedule TEAS for the end of winter break so I can study like crazy for it without interfering with my classes.

Hi there!

Yeah so i decided to take my TEAS in about 3 weeks! I feel SUPER under prepared, but I'm trying to study as best as I can!

oh i didn't know there was an interview required! Is it only for those that have been accepted to the nursing program? Or do you have to get interviewed before they make the decision? And does it apply to all schools do you know?
