Questions about TEAS

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

There are two testing dates to take the TEAS in December. I think there's more in January. I was planning on taking it in December but I started a new job, lots of homework, and been busy. I got the ATI official study guide from the college's library but only could have it for a week and it's due back Wednesday. I haven't studied at all. I'm so nervous for this test because it's really important. It gets me into nursing school! I was looking on amazon, eBay, Barnes and Noble looking to see what good study materials are (and cheap!) I don't want to buy the ATI for 40 to 50 dollars. What books really helped you to prepare/study? Should I wait until January? And what's it like to not use a calculator? I'm so nervous! Thanks in advance! :)

I would get the book.

Good luck

I took my Teas V5 over a month ago. I passed with exactly what I needed in order to get in to nursing school. I studied for only one month using the ATI test book and by watching videos on you tube. Most all the videos I watched were from the Khan Academy. I watched nothing but Math and Science videos. It really helped.

I am not a real academic student. I am a working adult and have not taken a math class in over 10 years, but I managed to pass.

You can do it. However, if you are not ready for it and you can put it off for another month, I would put it off and study for it.

Best of luck to you.....

Okay, I'm going to see how I am in a couple weeks, see if I'm prepared or not. Other then the ATI book, what others should I get? Amazon shows Mc Graw Hill 5 TEAS Practice Tests, Mc Graw Hill Nursing School Entrance Exams, there's 8 practice tests or 16. Or there's pass the teas, ace the teas, and secrets of the teas.. out of those are they any good? I've read and read reviews but I just want to make sure I'm getting my moneys worth to actually help me. My local library I put a hold on for the ATI and I should get it within the next week or two.

Borrow, beg or steal the ATI guide. You don't have the time for the McGraw Hill book. Just dig in a get studying!

If you feel uncomfortable about doing math without a calculator, start practicing! Go to a website like purplemath.com and practice the basic arithmetic skills. Make a do-able plan, like 3 hours a day, go to the library so that you won't be distracted. Don't make excuses about skipping a day of practice/study. The TEAS is very passable, if you just concentrate on the ATI guide and commit enough time to read it in its entirety and do each question/passage/question. I have taught test prep classes for over 10 years, and the number 1 reason that students don't get the score they wanted is due to procrastination. Anyone is capable of passing the TEAS!! Just take it one page at a time when you study, and don't give up! Good luck!

Think about all the money you spent on tuition, books, and all the little logistical expenses throughout your prerequisites. Now is not the time to start cutting costs. The TEAS is a major bottleneck to your success that deserves a massive amount of your attention. If the book hypothetically costs $1000, you buy the book. Period. You came this far. Perhaps it's time to ask yourself how committed you are to becoming a nurse. If you get in, you will be spending way more than you can imagine on all kinds of unforeseen expenses. I don't mean to discourage you with my stern words, but the the tone of your post conveys to me a complete lack of dedication.

I am about to sign up to take the teas v in January through a PSI location. Does anyone have any advice on that? Before I purchase my test date. I got the ati manual so I'm ready lol.

Oh check Craig's list for used manuals that's how I got mine $20. Good luck to you. :-) I know the $$$ issues gets discouraging don't stress or take the negative comments personal. We have to cut cut coupons and buy used to pay the bills ;-)

I took the TEAS V this past wednesday and I did very well! I highly recommend buying the ATI study manual and the two practice assessment forms A & B from the ati testing website. The ATI book will outline the content you need to know but I suggest supplementing another source purely for science section if you dont feel confident in that area. The practice assessments are most representative of the exam. You can take them online and treat them like the real exam. In addition, the assessment explains correct and incorrect answers, as well as provides a score report and a list of topics you need to review.

I know people who have used the McGraw Hill book containing the 5 TEAS V practice exams and they have told me the ATI online practice assessments are more difficult. Perhaps if you just need more practice questions to drill content in and develop a pace then you can purchase the McGraw Hill book but I do not believe it will be a good indicator of how you will perform on test day. This is my opinion but anyone can feel free to disagree.

The math section is very straightforward and it takes practice. You should be able to answer math questions very efficiently and not take too much time on any one question. The algebra can be a bit tedious because you're not allowed to use a calculator but you should be fine if you put the time into studying. There were no surprises on my exam. Just expect the real exam to be longer since there are additional questions

I rented the ATI manual from Amazon. I signed up for the test date Feb 5th. I took notes on the four sections. I am very nervous, especially about the science portion! But I am very happy I got the ATI manual. It is a big help!
