Advice: Is 2 weeks of studying enough?

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

Hi all,

I'm applying to ABSN programs for Fall 2013, and two of the schools require the TEAS V. Last night, I decided to take one of the online practice tests (Practice A) offered by ATI as a diagnostic before diving into the study manual, just to see where I stand. (BTW, I managed to snag the manual and both online tests during a sale in November...hopefully they'll do it again so others can get it too. :))

So I went through the Practice A, and this was my score breakdown:

Reading: 92.9%

Math: 96.7%

Science: 89.6%

English: 90.0%

???!!! Um... I'm genuinely shocked, especially since the reading comprehension section in ALL standardized testing has been the BANE of my existence since 5th grade. Anyway, my original plan was to study for a month, thoroughly go through all of the practice tests, and then take the test on March 1. BUT, do you think it would be possible for me to take it sooner? The next available dates for one of the test centers are February 1, 8, and 15.

I'm just curious about what other test-takers have done. Also, how do the practice tests compare to the real thing? Thanks guys!

Oops! The second topic I posted after this one is a duplicate (same topic) .... please disregard that one. Newbie mistake. :shy:

With those scores, you'll be fine. I did not study at all and passed.

Thanks for the input!

Turns out, I only had about a week to study, so I just focused my attention on the Science and English sections - using the feedback from the Practice A. I kinda freaked out yesterday when I did Practice B... and ended up with a lower score! This was after a week of studying. :nailbiting:

BUT...what they've been saying on the board is true: the online practice tests are harder than the real test. My actual score jumped almost 7 points. So folks, get the ATI Manual AND the online tests; focus on whatever topics the online assessment tells you to review; and get the McGraw Hill Entrances Exam book (I borrowed a copy from the library) because the ATI Manual doesn't cover all of the science topics.

I'll post my scores on the "Enter your TEAS V scores here!!" thread. Good luck! :)
