Advice for TEAS V

Nursing Students TEAS

Published

I have been studying the ATI study guide for TEAS V and I did quite a bit better on the second practice test in that book than I did a week before on the first one. But tonight I paid for one of the online versions of the practice TEAS V and it was BY FAR AND AWAY more difficult. Wildly more difficult! The science stuff just blew me away and I just got done with all my science pre-reqs and got straight A's in them all!

I was so discouraged and demoralized. I take the real test on Friday morning and I am overwhelmed with how to approach preparing the next couple days. (I got about a 85% on the book's practice exam and only a 76% on the online one. And that is REALLY cutting it close to get into the school I'm applying to; it requires 75%.) It's official: I'M FREAKING OUT!

Any advice will be VERY welcome.

Oh really? Then I don't feel so bad about English being my worst!

Do you know a way to explain those things I mentioned above? The book has crappy examples and it goes over it for a page.

I think the easiest is math. but unwashed an engineering major.

The reading comprehension part was Meh. but the rest was easy.

science was a hit or miss

I used this for complex vs. simple sentences: http://www.eslbee.com/sentences.htm

For the subject agreement stuff, I have my brother's and my own workbooks from elementary/middle school. Those were very helpful to me. I would recommend looking at middle school language arts books to get a feel for that kinna stuff. I also happened to take remedial English my 1st semester at my CC (they bumped to freshman Eng. once they saw that I had taken AP Eng. exams and classes in high school) so I have a workbook leftover from that class that went over the subject verb agreement stuff extensively. BUTTT... This is what I use to remember subject agreement:

EX.) One of the children run to the store.

This is how I kinna take apart of the sentence: "One run to the store." This can't be right; it should read "One runs to the store." Therefore, "One of the children runs to the store." Make sense? I get rid of "of the children" because it's like a modifier or something... I can still read the sentence and have it make sense w/out using that phrase. Hopefully this helps you lol.

Blah, there were other websites I used as well, but I can't find them at the moment... I will PM you once I get them. =)

Hey! So where are you applying to for fall 2012?

Which is your top choice?

The link was pretty useful! Thanks!

The online practice TEAS V for the science was really hard compared to the practice tests in the book. I don't remember the real TEAS V from March being that hard... Has anyone taken the TEAS more recently and know if the test got harder or is about the same? Are the online practice tests just really hard?

No problem!

I am applying to Sonoma, Sac, Stanislaus, SF, & Fresno. My top choice is Sonoma. How about you?

Oh all up there in nor cal eh?

All the so cal schools I am applying to: CSULB, CSULA, CSUSB, APU for fall 2012 and some ADN programs for spring 2012

I have already applied to 2 ADN programs already. I am wondering what I do if I get accepted to the ADN programs for spring, should I start them? If so, what if one of the BSN programs accept me?

Decisions....

Gosh, its ridiculous how competitive things have gotten.

I remember lots and lots of fractions!

Oh yea. I am desperately trying to avoid Socal. LOL.

Hmm... That is a tough one. I'm applying to a couple of ADN programs for the fall. Maybe you should try to get into those programs during the fall as well? It would suck getting into an ADN program & then finding out that you're good for BSN or if you get into an ADN program & don't go, but get rejected for the BSN programs... That seems the best way to me.

Yea which way is best?

I am applying with friend and her grades are ok. She wants us to apply everywhere now. Lol. Well I am wondering, say I get accepted to the ADN for spring, apply for the BSN programs and then if I get accepted to the BSN program, just transfer over to the BSN program? I'm sure I'm not the first and only one to be in this predicament...

I've seen a lot of posts regarding a McGraw-Hill Study Guide. Is this the same as the M-H Nursing School Entrance Exams textbook? I'd like to go ahead and purchase this book (in addition to my ATI TEAS V study manual) just to further brush up on some subjects I've not had since highschool :smackingf

anyone out there who could help me with this information? Would it even be worth purchasing another book? Does the M-H study guide prove to be helpful on the science portion?

I take the exam on Oct. 18th

any information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
