A couple of questions for those who took the TEAS V test...

Hi there! I have a few questions about TEAS V. I am currently using the 5 TEAS Practice tests by McGraw Hill's and ATI study manual. Some questions that I have are:

1. Are there going to be some earth science content on the test that aren't found in the ATI study manual?

I have a good idea with the ATI study manual, but looking at the McGraw-Hills 5 Practice TEAS tests, they had questions like, "Of these layers of the atomosphere, which is closest to Earth?" and "Which is an example of igneous rock?" which aren't present in the ATI guide. Should I study on this area, and where/what information should I study?

2. Are there going to be questions about the cerebrum/mesoderm/etc (brain tissue), or are these experimental questions? These are not found in the ATI study guide, but I have read a few posts about people encountering them, so I was wondering if these were experimental questions or not.

Is there going to be content that are not found in the ATI study manual that are going to be on the test?

Taken at face value, your query is unanswerable: Will there be Q. about, XYZ? Y' know, we mushrooms out here are not composing your TEAS exam.

Will there be exam content not found in (various) study guides? Probably, if only because--as you already know--the TEAS includes nongraded questions you don't know the purpose of. "Test" questions, probably, for any of several possible reasons.

Frankly, I now expect to find, on any written or computerized qualifying exam, questions about topics I've never heard of. This was true even of the CNA exam, and the RN teaching the course said to expect the same of the NCLEX. And, I think there is no practical way to determine which exam questions are experimental.

Earth science questions--were strongly rumored a year or so ago, but I haven't seen any. Which doesn't mean you won't have a few.

I'm not sympathetic to folks who want, or seem to expect, to know in advance just what questions will be on an exam. Paraphrasing Steve Dutch, the most important exam of your life will: be completely unannounced, cover every topic you've ever studied, and include several questions about things you've never even heard of.

My apologies, I guess it is quite impossible to have complete knowledge beforehand on a test. As you said, you guys don't make the test. I just wanted to know if others have encountered such questions on their exam. But in the end, it's up to me... so I guess I'll do what I have to do.

I took the TEAS Exam about 2 years ago, and yes there were earth science questions, and many others that that will make you leave shaking your head. However, looking back it was easier than many of the nursing exams I have encountered. Good luck!

Hi! I just took the test a few months back and there weren't any earth science questions and only 1 or two physics questions - I was totally expecting a bunch of Newton-based questions. I didn't use the ATI study guide, I used a book that covered all the different RN program entrance exams but I only studied the TEAS section. I started out taking the practice tests then studied the areas I had difficulty with then re-took the tests in a simulated test environment (I timed myself and took the tests without any interruption). The "practice exams" I found for free online were not reflective of the actual test. It was recommended that I pay for the ATI study guide and practice exams on their website however I didn't have the money so I didn't. I did really well on the test.

Each person obviously needs to study in a way that works best for them and there is no guarantee that what was on my test will be the same as yours...I don't know how that works... that being said - Good Luck! 8-)

I paid for the online tests and got a 78 and 72 respectively, where in both tests there were questions of mesoderm,ectoderm, etc. So I think that I should go and study that too since they were found on the official online practice tests, along with earth questions (although I'm not sure how to go about that haha)

I've heard several people say that the online practice tests are harder than the actual TEAS. That they scored lower on those.

I did have several earth science questions on my test. No mesoderm etc. And quite a few chemistry questions. Ugh. However, I have taken harder tests in nursing. It wasn't that bad...especially if you are studying hard. I studies for one day. Good luck! :)

Well, I took the exam last Tuesday and the exam was pretty tough, But I did pretty well and passed. The ATI book did'nt really help me, the practice questions were really not similar to the actual questions that I got. But there were easy ones on the science portion like mitosis vs meiosis and 1 punett square question. I just want to share my experience to relieve your anxiety I know how hard and nerve racking it is. Just focus and relax. Make sure to use up all your time, check every answer, don't second guess and Good luck!

there are many different teas test and they change to stop cheating, that being said the one I took had a couple of earth science but the ones that stumped me were the deffinitions there were words that ive never heard of lol, I couldn't even break them down phonetically to get an idea of what it pertained to but for the most part the test questions were covered in the test guide, I even paid for and used the online practice test , it was way easier than the actual test but I guess it helped with the format. Thanks guys for all the helpful tips!! It is definitely nervewracking. I took it last Saturday, and there wasn't a lot of earth science questions (like rocks, formations, etc. thank goodness) There also wasn't a lot of ectoderm questions...

I felt like that the ATI book was really helpful and the McGraw practice tests as well! (i was worried though I kept getting 78%-82% on every practice test in the ATI/McGraw book, felt like those were harder than actual test haha)

Overall I did awesome... so I'm happy. Those two months of studying paid off. hehe.
