....On April 11, 2005, senators Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii); Orrin Hatch (R-Utah); Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.); Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.); Mike Dewine (R-Ohio); and Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) introduced S. 760, the “Emergency Medical Services for Children Act of 2005” (EMSC), otherwise known as “The Wakefield Act.” This bill honors the Wakefield family and would amend the Public Health Service Act to provide a means for continued improvement in emergency medical services for children....

The “Wakefield Act” offers specialized training for emergency care providers and ensures ambulance and emergency departments have state-of-the-art, pediatric-sized equipment...
