Starting nursing school...

I am in the same position as you are except I have two sons and recieve no child support at all but we can do it, besides anything worth having is worth sacrificing and working hard for. Good luck.

I recommend cutting back at work as much as possible and utilize student loans as much as possible...
From what I have seen it is possible to work and school for the first nursing semester but the demands will increase...the people that work, really have a hard time of it.
The great thing about the student loan is that payment is deferred until after graduation.
My story is that I have a 17 month old daughter and my wife works part time...home equity lines that we set up before I started nursing school is what we thought was best...good interest rate plus the tax deduction on the interest paid.
Good luck...I know it can be done as I witness with my classmates but you have to be at the grind all the time.

I am not in this situation myself as I do not have any children. I just wanted to let you know that there are several women in my class who are in the same situation and they are all doing just fine. It really takes some good time management but it can be done. Best wishes!

I am also in the same boat 22 year old with 2 boys 4 and 2. I know life is going to be ruff for the next couple of years but believe me I am so determined to make this work and I will. Being a nurse is what I've always wanted to do and because of certain obstacles I had to put it on the back burner. But not anymore. Now that all is passed I am going to work my tail off to make a better life for me and my children. I also do not receive any child support and will be working 40hrs a week. May sound impossible to do but to me nothing is impossible with the grace of God by my side guiding me right through. I work from Sun-Thurs 10pm-6am. My class is from 5pm-9pm Mon-Thur. I'm getting my ADN in Nursing 24 month course.

wow I really admire those of you who are doing nursing school while raising a child(ren) That is amazing and I think everyone should give you props for that...

I don't have kids of my own...my situation is that I have a house and don't want to lose it while I am in school. I will be starting school within the next 6 months and going through an intense 12 month program so I know there is no way I'll be able to work. Until then I am working as much as possible (I know you cant really do this when you have little ones to raise) and then I am looking into getting loans to pay for my bills while I am in school. I hate that I have to do this and will have a crazy debt right out of school, but thinking of the potential for money to be made once I am out of school I know it will be worth it. So, if I were you I would look into loans possibly, you can always pay them back and it may relieve some stress while youre in school and get you by. Also, have you found any groups that may help with daycare or things of that sort, I'm sure theres more than just you trying to make it through classes with kids, maybe there is a some help with that...Best of Luck to you!!!!

I am in a very similar situation. I am 21 and have a three year old son and I am going to began a nursing program in the fall. I get full financial aid because I have not been working I have been going to school to get my pre-reqs out of the way but I also have a house payment and plently of bills. I want to get a summer job to try and save some money before I begin the program. Luckily, my son will begin headstart the same week I begin nursing school so I will not have the day care bill. My problem is that there have been rumors that my husband and several of his employees will be getting laid off from their job. If this is true I am going to be the one in nursing school, working, and trying to find the time to spend with our son until he can find another job because I don't know if there is a student loan that is big enough to pay all of our bills!

hi! i admire people who in spite of having families of their own wants to finish schooling!!!well, to tell you, i just finish my nursing 2007 and passed the board on the same year...after being out of school for about more than 20 years...i was finance supervisor before and been working for 15 years...after having 2 kids my husband who is in the u.s. advised me to take up nursing...hesitant at first...but i was able to survive...my kids were able to maintain their standing in school...in spite of my hectic schedule...time management, enthusiasm, love and dedication is what you need...btw, you need to discuss these things w/ your husband...cause financially/emotionally/physically you will need his support!!! W/ all my prayers!!
