You only need look at this idea to think "I could have come up with that - it is so simple."

So why don't we - invent new things and better ways of getting something done.

Me??? My excuse is that I spend too much time here bringing you stories like this one

A nursing assistant daughter of a patient bought Nerf balls, cut a slit, and put it on her mothers hand. Full ROM but she couldn't pull out her Foley.

Good idea?

use the oxygen to blow up the hemi doughnuts, which we also use for pillows when our OB patients take baths...Here I was teaching everyone about labor when our newest addition to the staff started laughing at me when a dad took the thing away from me with the humorous comment that I might die if I continued to attempt to blow up the thing myself, and she put it on the spigot, turned on the o2 and voila! No problem. Learn something to simplify your life every day..

Actually, oxygen is NOT explosive..That is a misleading thing for most people. Oxygen is only flammable when used in conjunction with other flammable gasses, otherwise the air we breathe would be constantly exploiding....Since I am aware of that fact and we have no other flammable gasses flowing through that particular line, I ( formerly Mother/BabyRN), actually have no problem blowing up the little donut with it....Thanks for the concern, however.

You are incorrect with regard to your point of filling up an air donut fromt he spigot but again, I do appreciate the point you attempt to make..

We get very creative on our unit - we really like cotton balls in the fingers of gloves if we do not have mitts available to prevent pts from pulling out lines; we also make hot packs with hot water on towels wrapped in chux; etc. etc. I think as nurses, we are definitely inventors!
