rejected from nursing school- but still RN

How many of you were rejected from nursing school so many times- but you never got discouraged and kept pursuing your dream untill you became an RN today??

That happened to me, I applied to nursing school in 2003 and never got in, was rejected 5x untill I finally got into 3 other schools- and went to 1- and 2 years later- I had my license!

I applied to 5 schools last year and didn't get accepted to any of them. This year I got accepted to Clatsop Community College. It was the only college I applied to. I was in complete schock when I got my acceptance letter.

I had given up on getting into nursing school because of my GPA which is 3.3. I know that isn't horrible but I have heard from so many people you have to practically have a 4.0 in order to get accepted.

I think I just kind of gave up because of how competetive it is, my GPA and because I am getting married this summer. I figured once we got married we would start a family and get a house within a few years. I was comfortable in my situation. I am working as a medical assistant, which I love. So I think that is why I kind of just tossed my hands in the air and gave up. I really don't think I would have applied next year if it wasn't for me getting in this year.

The past few weeks I have just been on this crazy high and loaded with stress all at the same time. Lots of emotions. We have to relocate for me to go to school so things are going to be a little crazy.

I applied to 2 nursing schools while in high school. I was rejected from both schools because my SAT scores were too low. They told me that I would never make in through. I was devastated. All my friends were going away to college and I was stuck at home working in a book factory. Everyday in the factory I would dream about one day being a nurse. I was accepted in to an LPN program a year later. I worked a year on nights as an LPN and saved my money and applied to a very good diploma RN school in upstate PA. I was accepted and I graduated with the highest grades in my class. I have been a nurse now for about 29 years and I could not be happier.

I applied and got rejected to so many nursing school I lost count. I did a blitz krieg approach to my applications. 3 years later I got accepted and now am happily an RN. Glad I never gave up!

And are probably some of our best nurses too. Just think who do you want caring for you someone who has to work hard or the one who just slides right by.

Yup, it aint over till you give up. You might NOT fit the requirements for admission to school one particular semester but that's not the final word. Find out what needs improving and give it another go. Or yours just might be the 51st qualified application they receive for a class of 50. True tenacity is one of the most useful qualities you can have to get through school, or to work on the floor after you get that RN, BSN or whatever.

20 years ago when I was in a near fatal car accident and I woke after 9 days in a coma and cried so many tears I had my own pool, I was told I would never go back to school again and I would never walk again and I would never talk "right" again. I spent 6 months in a wheel chair and fell over and over again till I did not fall anymore. I went back to college and failed English Comp 2 once from a PhD who thought that a TBI meant that I was retarded! I went back again and cried and went back again. THen I got married and abused and divorced and went back again. I applied for nursing school because I wanted to give thanks to the profession that saved my heart. The doctors put my body back together but the nurses saved pieces of my heart and even though there are still parts missing, I am here because of them. I was denied because I did not have the grades and even though I wrote a "moving and inspiring essay, perhaps nursing school may be too much for me." Sounded like the shrink who told me that I had to "re-evaluate what I wanted from Life and how I did not have what it took anymore to go back to college." Well, I had an AA so I got in to Barry and broke my back and graduated with a BS and got inducted into the international honor society for the social sciences! I started in Graduate School and got into the accelerated program at MDC. I went there for 2 semesters and I was having tachycardia, nightmares, when I did sleep and did not eat. I did not pass the second nursing theory course (74). I was in graduate school and trying to get pregnant with fertility treatments. I was blessed because, UM called. I went to UM for 2 years and got my BSN! I since have finished my MS in education and now I do research for TBI! DO not ever let anyone get in the way of your dreams!
