Well, I remembered when I first spoke to a nurse about getting into nursing school. She told me that I couldn't get in because I didn't have all my prerequisites. I got in and completed all my prereqs during my first year of nursing. Also, after taking a CNA course that the school requires before nursing school started, the instructor put us down. She told me that nursing would difficult for me. She she was wrong. I guess the biggest obstacle came when I attended a college a few years ago and dropped out because of mental problems. My GPA was less than a 2.0. I had to convince the school to take me and they did! Never give up on your dreams! I just completed and year. I have one more year to go.

I was in a similar situation. Applied to ONE nursing school on January, ASSuming I would get right in because of the nursing shortage. Obviously wrong! lol

After finally researching it, I sent out applications to nursing schools within a 90 minute radius of my home. Yup, a 1 1/2 hour commute ONE way, to both community colleges and private ones. I had almost all my pre-reqs done, and had a 4.0 GPA. After 12 or so applications, I got 2 interviews, one at a private college (where I went to, since it was day program, which I needed with kids) and one to a CC starting a night program.

I never really researched how difficult it would be, because my now ex-MIL went to nursing school, just applied and got in, in 1993, no muss, no fuss. I know now it's not like that anymore!

I used the application shotgun approach as well. 3 community colleges, 1 accelerated BSN and 2 diploma programs in the fall of 2005.

2 cc's said, "well, you need to finish your science pre-reqs before you can even be considered and then we have no idea when you'd be able to start."
1 cc said, "you need to finish your science pre-reqs and then we think you can start in September 2008."
The accel BSN recruiter reviewed my BS transcript over the phone with me and said, "we'll cash your application check but you'll never get accepted."
1 diploma school said, "you need to finish your science pre-reqs and then we'll consider your application."

1 diploma school said, "just take the NET, complete A&P 1&2 and you can start in July 2006. You can finish up your other sciences during the program" I just graduated from that school in June, passed my boards and start work in 2 weeks. Wound up getting a scholarship from them too.

I guess I was lucky getting in. I applied to one school and got accepted. I already had a BS degree in Educational Psychology with biology and chemistry minors. At 23 they considered me a "second career" student!?!?!? Whatever, it got me in!

The first week we were there we had to take this critical thinking exam that was like an hour long. THey didn't want us to do it during class time, so the told us it was mandatory one day after a 4 hour lecture series. They also told us that it would no way affect our grades, it was just to look at our critical thinking. I think I finished the test in 5 minutes, every answer was a "C". Mainly cause I didn't care. I ended up with our clinical skills lab director (total witch) as my advisor. She told me that considering my scores, I may want to look at a different career. I replied that considering their timing of such a crucial exam in our schedule, she may want to consider taking some education classes, mainly curriculum planning and tests/measurements. 20 years later i STILL have her school address and take pride in sending here a copy of every national certification and commendation that I receive. I was at the school about a year ago and bounced into her office, told her I was in a NP program. Told her how "thankful" I was that I didn't take her advice 20 years ago to drop out of school.

Interstingly, after finishing nursing school my mother royally ****** me off when she told me I went into nursing because I couldn't get accepted into Med school.. Well, guess what, 3 years later, I had taken some additional classes, including Physics (UGH!), I got accepted to Med school. My mother was dancing around the kitchen saying "my baby's gonna be a doctor". I tore up the acceptance letter and said, "OKAY, I STILL DON"T WANNA GO, I JUST WANTED TO SHOW YOU THAT I COULD GET ACCPETED." Now she is VERY supportive of me being a nurse.

NEVER give up and NEVER let anyone tell you that you can't accomplish something.

Honest-- I cannot tell you the reason why I was rejected from nursing school.
I had a 3.33 GPA--
I got accepted to nova south eastern university, manatee community college, and BCC

I ended up finishing my RN at BCC- I've been working for almost a year now.
