Is nursing worth all the trouble?

by Tone022

Sometimes I wonder. Two years ago I enrolled in a RN school ended up being dismissed from the program after a year even though I was studying my ass off. Was then going to study something else, but ended up in a LPN program. I thought I had finally found success in life making it to the Deans List and getting a diploma in Practical Nursing. I was shocked after I took State Boards and found out I failed. Near the passing standard in every category. Now I all my friends are nurses and I am hating life.
Nursing has changed my life in many ways. I have met some wonderful people patients, doctors, nurses and have enjoyed many experiences. It has destroyed my confidence. I felt like a minority when I started nursing school because I am a male, ended up getting my heart broken by one of my classmates, I hating making mistakes because this peoples health and lives I am dealing with, and now I have to deal with being a nclex failure. Can I bounce back? What is the best way to study for state boards? Do you guys really enjoy your job? I know many nurses that are miserable. Thanks your pessimistic friend TONE22

Keep going. Pick yourself up and brush yourself off and keep going. If this is WHAT you DEFINITELY want to do, persevere. I failed the boards twice before finally passing. The second time, I passed every single category and in one I got on the line of passing; meaning, I probably missed one OR two questions. I cried and cried and felt like such a failure. I had to resign from my first nursing position because of it too. Awful. But, I kept going, studied every day and did Suzannes plan with diligence. In the end, I passed and to top it off, I found out on my birthday morning You can do it, the test is ridiculous and some of those questions?.....geesh, seriously.

Good luck!!

Think back of all the other times in your life when life hit you hard---1st break up, didnt make the basketball team, etc etc etc. We all have had them...You got hit a blow by not passing Nclex 1st time. That sucks, but your not alone. Many great nurses have been in your exact shoes.

Be mad, sad and make excuses. Then brush your self off and try again. 10 years from now this will seem minor in the scope of things.

if you want to be a nurse--and you didnt do all that schooling if you didnt want to. Then make a plan and focus and pass your boards. Seeing an active lic in your name will be all the sweeter.

Best of luck!!

and to answer your orginal question--in my mind it is worth it!!

Stop questioning whether you are inferior in any way to any of us now practicing...you're not!

Most of us are not geniuses. We just have our own talents...just as you do.

Get your head back into it and push forward.

JUST DO IT!
