Your story is truly touching and brought tears to my eyes!

Nursing will be a career change for me, and I know it will be difficult, with three children, but I do have a tremendously supportive husband. That's great that you now are surrounded by loving family. You are truly an inspiration!!

Would love to hear an update on how you are loving your nursing career - I know you are an awesome nurse!!

I have led the exact same life with an abusive childhood, no home, 2 failed marriages, abuse, being a single mom, laid off twice in the last 2 years... Please give me some advice about how to do this while making sure my kids are cared for. I have no family or friends to help and school is 30 miles from my home through heavy traffic, making the commute about 3 hours a day round trip. My main concern is making sure my kids get home from school safely and are fed.

Here is my story:

When I graduated high school I got married 3 months later, not realizing it at the time, I was just trying to escape life with my Dad and stepmother who was an abusive addict, and had been since she married my Dad when I was 10. I was her target. My mom and sister died when I was little so I was stuck in that living situation until I was old enough to get out. I'd been accepted to a university and thought I wanted to be a teacher. My husband and I lived a 45 minute drive away from the college. He wouldn't work. I was enrolled full time and working full time. I .

WITH HELP it can be done. What about those of us who have absolutely no friends, family, or husbands to care for the children? Who gets them to/from school? Who feeds them? Who helps them with homework and takes them to their after school activities when mom is gone from 5 am til 6 pm and has to study til midnight? THAT is what I'm trying to figure out. Your story made me cry and is inspiring, but I am still feeling despair...
