Keeping it in the family.

I graduated from a BSN program in 1995 as a single mom. I have four sisters. (I'm second oldest) I've worked Med-Surg, agency, and most recently in ICU.

The second to the youngest sister entered a nursing program two years after I graduated. She says I was her inspiration for going. She graduated with an ADN and is an ER/Critical Care nurse. She starts classes this fall for her BSN.

My Dad's sister then was laid of from her long term job as a flight attendant. My sister and I talked up nursing. She went through a LPN program and is now LOVING working in LTC. She's planing to get her RN soon.

My older sister's youngest then started kindergarten and she decided to go through a LPN program. She graduated last May and found work in a Gasteroenterology Group's offices.

So then my baby sister (actually is 25) graduated THIS May as a LPN and is working on her temp license in a LTC facility she worked for as a CNA during her schooling. She's waiting to take the NCLEX.

My middle sis says Nursing is gross. But she does do office work in an oral surgeons. Her Mom (my step-mom) is the oral surgeon's bookkeeper. And my Dad's youngest sister just graduated from a dental assistant program and is working in a community clinic.

We gotcha covered on the medical/dental front. Can your family beat that???
LOL

I was just accepted to the nursing program and I start this August. When i graduate, I will be the 4th generation nurse when I graduate. Thus my sign on name! Great Grandma, Grandma, and mom were all nurses. I pratically grew up in hospitals (got dragged into the hospital when mom was on call late at night!). Also I have 4 others aunts and some cousins in the medical field. I'm pretty proud of that!!

Lots of medical people in my family too.
My mom has been an LPN for 40 plus years, my great aunt was an RN I have 3 aunts and an uncle that are RNs also. My cousin is a family practice MD. My sister-in-law went to school for EMT (not working in the field now) I also have other cousins that work in the medical field: admissions in a clinic, social work in a busy metro ER and for a medical insurance company. I've been an LPN since jan. and godwilling will be taking RN NCLEX in dec.

Cool thread!

My Great Grandfather was a doctor, his two daughters were nurses, my mother's sister is a nurse, and her three daughters are nurses. I also have 4 Great-Aunts who are nurses, some of which have children that are nurses (extended family, I'm not sure how many).

I'm in nursing school, and am trying to convince three of my cousins to keep the tradition alive.

Nurses rule!

my mom has just retired as a nurse after 50 years , she's 71 now, my sister is a RN also and has been for 20 years , i have been a LPN for 21 years and just graduated from RN school and waiting to take my boards..my cousin is a nurse practitioner in florida. my mother was my sister and I DON at one time.. which was kinda fun .. yet not so fun .. because she is a stickler of a nurse... it was very interesting having your mom as your boss at home and work.. she's a wonderful nurse and loved her patients.. i love reading your posts

My mom was an X-Ray tech, my aunt is an OR RN, so medicine has been a part of my family for a while. I want to make both of them proud when I graduate from school because I want to be a success story for them, not a hindrance.
