Thanks! That eases my mind a little! I am taking a chem class with lab in the Spring and then organic chem in the fall. I am taking PALS in August and have GRE scheduled for August 29th. Do you think I will still have time to apply for Spring semester taking the GRE on August 29th or should I reschedule for July 29th? I will have to pay a $50 reschedule fee but thats a small amount of money compared to what school will cost!! Thanks for all the tips!! As you can probably tell I am a nervous nellie!!

Just apply even if you don't have the GRE done. You can write a little something in your statement about finishing up all that stuff. Good luck! Keep the questions coming if you have any more. I have a lot of friends on the inside so I got a lot of help. So I'd like to pay it forward as much as possible.

    Hi Jilly:

You don't need to take PALS, they will make you retake ACLS and PALS/BLS when you start school so that nobodie's expires during clinicals. They didn't seem to care that i had my ccrn or some of my other certs. If you get an interview then you probably will get in. As far as chemistry goes, you only need one chemistry with a lab and the other chem can literally be anything as long as it has "chemistry" in the title. which is why i will be taking mine online without a lab to save money and not have to physically be in a class setting.

I wouldn't stress about the GRE, i've heard of peeps getting an 800 and still getting in. I study for about 2wks for the GRE and did right above average. I was trying to be a slacker, i literally couldn't get the motivation to study geometry and literature...not my favorite subjects! I would just focus on getting your application in...have you applied yet? get the gre out of the way and letters of reference.

    hope that helps

Oscar: you are a crazy man! sounds like a lot going on bro, but hopefully renting your home can help with some of that debt. Good thing your in-laws can pitch a hand. you gonna look to rent a house, town-home, apartment? Think you will stay in Naples or out skirts? I am trying to decide where a good part of Naples is as far as parks and good places for families to walk around and such. I looked around for a day or so when i was there, it was kinda overwhelming driving around in a rental not really knowing where to look.

The apartments were nice but kinda spendy and I wasn't to convinced about it and not sure about how much money u get a month with max loans taken out. my buddy is half way through and he said roughly 3400 a month after your money goes to tuition/books. hard to say i guess. should be interesting. My wife is talking about working but not sure if day care is worth it or not or if i could manage watching an 8 month old and trying to study too. I think she should start a day care for a couple kiddos, but that could be another stressful situation

    Hi Denver,

Thanks for the advice! I am just finishing up my RN to BSN (I have kinda went the backwards way, experience first then back to school). Lol. I will be finished with the BSN the second week of June so I will definitely have my paperwork in line and ready to go by the end of June! So, they will make me retake pals even if I just took it a few months prior? I wonder why they list all these things as requirements if they have you retake them anyway? Oh well, now to get the recommendation from my manager. Our unit has a rule that you must stay 2 years before you get a recommendation. By the time I leave I will have worked on this unit for 1 year and 10 months. I was a travel nurse in this unit off and on for a few years so my transition to staff didn't require much training or money on their part so I'm crossing my fingers that they will let it slide. Heres hoping! Hopefully I will be joining you two in February of 14!!

I have my CCRN too. I hope that getting the interview does mean that I'm in there! Also, were you guys asked about where you'd prefer to do clinicals?

    Hi Tre,

You must be a night shifter like me since your up this late on this forum!! Are you hoping to get in for Oct 13 or Feb 14? I am hoping to get in for Feb but if I have to wait til Oct 14 that would be alright. Hopefully I get an interview!!

yep jilly, I am a night shifter indeed! I'm aiming for October 13. My interview is on March 15th. If I find out I'm accepted. I'm paying my deposit, putting in my 2 weeks notice, and going travel nursing to try and net some extra cash...any travel nursing company suggestions?

    Tre:

I chose Naples for my site cause i have a little one. My buddy is single and he currently maxed out the amount you can borrow and said roughly 3400 a month is what he gets...not sure on exact amount but I am sure lori in admissions could answer that one for you. I am pretty confident you will get in. just smile a lot and let them know how enthusiastic you are to get started! Don't forget to mention what cases you seen when shadowing a crna cause they will ask you.

Jilly: sounds like you are on the right path and I am sure it will all work out!

I chose Naples also because I wanted to stay local for my family. no matter where you are, you will periodically have to travel to other clinical hubs. But you will mostly be in your own.

Yay! The supervisor said he would write me a recommendtion! I am excited about this because the unit I work in has a rule where you have to be staff for 2 years! He is honoring the year I spent here as a traveler before I went staff!! I also have a recommendation from an anesthesia fellow who will be an attending by June and a critical care fellow also! Just gotta finish the RN to BSN and I will send everything in. I am so worried about even getting an interview!! It helps to read everyones experience with things so keep them coming!

I noticed today that the chemistry class I was planning on taking in the spring (general chemistry for health sciences) has a prereq of college algebra! The highest math I was required to take in my ADN program was intermediate algebra. I am good at algebra so I am not against taking the class but this will set me back a semester . So I will probably have to apply for October of 2014. So along with college algebra and general chemistry I have to take organic chem also. These classes will take me 3 more semesters and what sucks is college algebra is offered in the spring but is every day of the week! So for a full time nurse this doesn't work. My adviser is checking to see if they can waive the prereq so crossing my fingers!!
