Hey everyone, thought I would create a corner just for Texas! I applied to TCU and TWU in Ft. Worth.....Has anyone heard back anything from either of these two schools?

Specializes in ED, ICU, Transport (RW, FW, CCT).

I applied for both as well, but am hoping for the Denver sites at TWU. Also applied for three other schools (Newman, BryanLGH, and Mount Marty). Have not heard anything form any of these schools yet, but the deadlines are in November and December. "Trying" not to obsess about it too much at this point!! :nuke:

Specializes in SICU.

I've also applied to TCU and a few other schools but have not heard anything yet. I'll be sure to post if I hear anything!

I dropped off my apps to TCU and TWU today. Provided we all receive invitations, anyone heard any pointers on the interviews at either school? Rumor has it, TWU's is more difficult......let me know your thoughts!

Last year I interviewed at both schools. It's a very long story, but was accepted at both, accepted TCU's offer, and had to put my entrance on hold for a year due to illness. TCU's director, Kay, went out of the way, above and beyond, to work with me. TCU is all about helping you succeed. So I will be starting fall 2009 instead of this year. Anyway, TWU grills you on clinical issues (meds, vents, etc). TCU is very different. They require the CCRN, unlike TWU, and they believe if you passed that exam then you already have mastered those clinical questions. Their interview is still tough, no doubt, but it's geared toward finding out psychologically if you are a good fit for their program. They apparently did ask some people a clinical question or two if they felt they needed to dig deeper. I wasn't asked one so I have no idea about specifics but I've heard it was the same type of material as TWU only not as much. So don't go to TCU thinking that u may not have to answer a clinical question at all. Anyway, I wish you luck!

Neurogeek,

When does TCU send out invitation letters? Thanks. Sorry to hear about the illness. Hopefully I will get to be your classmate next fall!

Seems like I received mine sometime late October or early November. Wait....I think it was actually closer to Thanksgiving. Wow, can't believe I've forgotten since it was the MOST stressful waiting period ever! I actually received mine from TCU first so by the time TWU sent my acceptance I'd already accepted the TCU position. I have been invited to attend interviews in January to meet all the prospective classmates! So I really hope to see u there! Best of luck.....And yes, thanks for concern about my illness. I am a freak....no, really....I have 2 pancreases and 1 duct. I also have 2 sets of brachial arteries, veins, and nerves. Yep....I am my own twin! True, no joke. I am having DNA testing done because this is so rare. THere were actually 2 women who found out when their DNA did not match that of their children & CPS thought they'd kidnapped them! So my son is being tested also.......

Wow Neurogeek that is amazing!!

Hey I applied at Texas Wesleyan for the clinical site in Topeka, Kansas, and received my letter on Saturday the 6th, for an interview on Monday the 15th at Stormont Vail!!! I don't know if it's a blessing or a curse that I don't have much time before the interview! I applied at Newman University in Wichita as well, but don't expect to hear from them until January. I am studying like crazy this week...thought I would have more time. Any last minutes tips from anyone? I have searched the forums, and think I have a pretty good idea what to study, but.... I'm freaking out a little. :)

Review materials from the CCRN. But don't overthink things. Most of the questions I was asked were basic A&P knowledge regarding the bodies response to certain processes (my questions were all neuro based so a lot of brain response questions), plus vent questions & knowing what each setting is for & how it affects the body both positively & negatively. Blood gas analysis is a must and knowing what might create the bad gas. For instance, I was given a set of vital signs that included ABG's, BP, HR, RR, & sats. From that I had to not only analyze the gas but also tell what the cause of the results were based on the other vital signs so it does go a bit in depth in that area. Drugs are a must, especially ACLS drugs. Make sure that you are up front about your area of expertise so you don't get asked a lot of questions about things you're not real familiar with. And if you don't know something DO NOT try to fudge it....just tell them you don't know! Be cool & calm, don't let them rattle you. Remember that they something special in you or you wouldn't have gotten the interview in the first place! Good luck!:candycane:
