Should I retake these classes

Hello,

I will be graduating May 2008 and my goal is to become a CRNA. I rec'd a D in both Chem II and Org II--(A and B's in the labs) but the actual class were both D's. My current GPA is 3.4472 with those D's and if all goes as expected this year it will be 3.5584. Last 60 (my actual time in the nursing program) will be 3.9531. I was just plain playing too much and not giving those classes as much attention as I needed to. Should I be retaking them. I would have to do this after I graduate. I have a confirmed job in a major hospital working in the ICU and would like to save as much money as possible so I'd really like to work more and not go to school but if anyone's in the know on this let me know. I thought some schools may only figure you GPA on the required classes. Any help would be appreciated.

i believe ad-coms will look at these, especially since they are always interested in the science portions.. and also since chemistry is quite integral within the program itself. you may want to contact some schools and get their opinion. it is, however, part and parcel of the entire package that you present as an applicant, but an important piece none the less...

I would suggest a retake prior to applying. Even so, as you probably know that it will still be on your transcript unless you were to retake it at the same place. You might want to consider that because 2 D's could set off some red flags even with a 3.5. As Dfk has already said chem is very important in this program.

Definitely take them over.... No need to make yourself look bad after all the hard work you have put in your other classes... Plus it brings up your GPA......;)

Retake....I wonder if they will even accept those classes, some schools do not accept classes if you get less then a C ???? Have you spoken to anyone at the CRNA program about those classes??

If the CRNA program you intend to apply to require those classes as prerequisites, then definitely retake them. If not, then work on the overall presentation which looks good in my view (overall GPA > 3.5). You may also choose to retake them to be more competitive when applying.

I would definetly retake them. Having gone through the interviewing process at 4 schools, two which are heaviy based in sciences, my first C in chemisty was questioned in my interview at both interviews. I retook chemistry and got As in both organic and inorganic. They look at your willingness and determination to get in. They understand that some of us had a good time in college but they want to know that you have matured and are willing to commit to the demands of graduate school I am currently in a program heavily based in sciences. I would retake the clases, you probably won't need another lab portion. Some schools including mine won't accept Ds.
