Hello all I have been searching for any information on the University of Scranton/ Wyoming Valley's Nurse Anesthesia program and cannot find any recent posts. Does anyone know anything about this program or interview process?

Also, I noticed that this school is not ranked very high on the US News' ranking of Nurse Anesthesia schools. Does anyone know why some schools are ranked higher than others and do these rankings accurately reflect the quality of the school's education and the school's ability to prepare me to become a great anesthesia provider? I read the rankings with a grain of salt as I believe that with anything in life it is our own responsibility to make the best of any opportunity that we are given - whether it is at the number one school of the last ranked school. I interviewed November 8 and got an acceptance letter November 11, don't haze us too badly! Haha!

Hi everyone! It has been a while here again with no posts. I plan on applying to Scranton this coming app period. Here is my deal: RN l/d for two years going on 3; at the same time started ICU last summer. I figure by time of app I will have 1.5 yrs in ICU and over 2 yrs by the program start time. I'm part time but work about 30 hrs/wk. Should I do CCRN first? Did any of you who got accepted? I have the other credentials. I also did my first of 2 undergrads at Scranton. High gpa s both times. I'm currently taking Chem 2 this semester at the U. (And it's not coming easy) Are the crna classes heavily Chem laiden? Or more like 'nursing school chem'? Unrelated, for those of you in the program now I know it's all year round ... But are there any holiday breaks, spring break, any time off in summer or ever at all? Thanks in advance.

It is a requirement to have full time intensive care experience.

Perhaps, but it is very vague on the website. Copied from Scranton page:

"In addition to the requirements previously listed for graduate study in nursing, nurse anesthesia applicants must also have a minimum of one year of recent critical care nursing experience, current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification, current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, and have completed two courses in college chemistry."

Anyway, I have time to take care of my employment status. Rhino, (or anyone else) can you please shed some light on the typical schedule? Thanks!

Hey Obizyanka,

it doesn't hurt to go ahead and apply to the program but I would suggest fully working full time in the ICU as compared to part time. It will show ur full dedication to critical care in my opinion. And if you can do the CCRN too that's a plus on your application. The schedule is changing from what we are experiencing but I can tell you it will be busy and you will get good experience but you have to be willing to put in the time and effort into your own learning.

Hey peeps - this class should be graduating now and I'd like to get the skinny on the program from vets. Do I need to steer clear of this program? Did you have a good experience, learn what was needed? What is your overall thoughts on the matter- a list of pros/cons maybe. I'm trying to decide where to apply and I'd love some feedback on Scranton.
