Preparing for CRNA School

Hello all,

I am currently in my freshman year at college, but I've known since my junior year at high school that I've wanted to become a CRNA. So, I have a few questions in regards to what steps I need to take in order to prepare for CRNA school.

For starters, what should I do to make my application stand out? My GPA is currently at a 4.0, but will that be enough? Should I become more involved at my current school, and/or do some volunteer work on the side? Will that make my application look more competitive? Also, what sciences should I consider taking, and will it be looked down upon if those credits come from a community college? Lastly, will 2 years of experience be enough experience when compared to other applications?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I will much appreciate all responses.

Are you currently in a RN/BSN program? That will be step #1.. Upon graduating with that degree, gain the minimum of 2 years ICU experience (needed before you can even apply) as well as taking the required prerequisites for a CRNA program.. then research the schools in your area so you can apply, in which they are highly competitive.. Long story short lol Goodluck!

You actually only need one year of acute care experience before applying to CRNA school.

Keep you grades as high as possible (better than a 3.6).

Do well in your core nursing classes and science classes.

Take organic chem or bio chem.

Get your one year of ICU experience (some require two) in the highest acuity facility in your area.

As soon as you are eligible take your CCRN exam (one year of ICU experience is required).

Take the GRE if the schools in your area require it.

Shadow CRNAs that are Alumni from the schools in your area.

Get good recommendations from former professors, physicians, or current CRNAs.

Wright a great personal statement.

Volunteer on an ambulance if possible in your area.

Keep your debt down and start saving now.

Yep, I just posted that a couple of days ago on another thread...lol. The school still has lots of leeway how they determine critical care though.
