Nursing Students SRNA

Okay, I graduate in May 2009 with my BSN and I just wanted some advice about what will help me make that transition into a CRNA program.

Here's what I know so far:

ICU experience of at least 1 year, shadowing a CRNA is helpful, may need to take the GRE, I should be prepared to devote my life to the program lol...

I pretty much now what I need to do to prepare to apply to schools, but is there anything you wish you would have done earlier, any advice at all is appreciated!!!

:D

Shadowing a CRNA I would say is mandatory! If you haven't shadowed/worked with a CRNA how are you even sure this is the path you would like to follow? By the way there is plenty of old posts in the pre-SRNA forum that you will find helpful in preparing for nurse anesthesia school. Here is AANA information page on becoming a CRNA. http://www.aana.com/becomingcrna.aspx?ucNavMenu_TSMenuTargetID=18&ucNavMenu_TSMenuTargetType=4&ucNavMenu_TSMenuID=6&id=109

I don't know that there is any one thing that will help you prepare for CRNA school. Maybe go and have giant USB drive implanted in the back of your head to keep up with the gigabytes of information they will be throwing at you on day to day basis....

LOL!!! Thank you for the information!!!

Words of wisdom...:chuckle Preparing to start at USAGPAN, I couldn't have stated that any clearer!!

Specializes in Trauma ER and ICU...SRNA now.

I think the one thing I could have done better was to get my finances a little bit better, but that's what loans are for I guess.

I would definitely shadow a crna. I think working in PACU helps a bit too... I did it perdiem. I know I learned a lot about anesthesia that I never learned in an ICU.

Good luck

When you shadow a CRNA, does that look good on your application or is it just and FYI sort of deal?

Specializes in ED,CVICU,MICU, SRNA.

I was asked in my interview if I had shadowed a CRNA, so I think it's important.

Really, if you don't shadow a CRNA how do you it's something you truly want to do? Plus it's really fun and gets you all excited to apply, interview, etc. It gets you motivated!
