My resume is this:

RN for 7 years. Recieved ADN right after high school in 2005 with cumulative GPA 2.9. I have one semester left on my BSN from SLU (55 credit hours completed so far) with a cumulative GPA of 3.96. I started on the Trauma floor then transferred to the Transplant/Neurosurg ICU. 2.5 years later I transferred to the CVICU. For the past six months I have been in the specialty ICU Float Pool/Rapid Response. I will tell you that the director had emphasized the importance of good rec letters, I had four from co-workers/charge nurses; 2 from nursing supervisors; one from BSN co-chair/instructor and from the Director of the BSN program. Hope this helps and good luck next year!

I am relocating from IL, I currently live 15 min from St. Louis MO. I can not wait to move, this whole process and acceptance seems so surreal! I am so excited to meet all of you! See you in August!

Congrats everyone! Saslater as far as good suburbs to look at there are a ton of nice apts. right in st Louis park. Also Plymouth, Golden Valley would be good to look too. My husband lived in the Creekside Apts.In Plymouth a while ago and they were great access (only 5 min to the school and great access to clinical sites) but a little pricey. There were a bunch of apartments right around there too. I can give you my contact info and tell you more info! By the way my name is Laura (ignore my screen name I accidentally typed my password as my pets name when I made my account)

Congrats to those of you that got in! If you wouldnt mind sharing, could those of you who got in post your stats (GPA, GRE, ICU experience,...) for students who are going to apply in the future?

adkrichman:

BSN GPA: 3.45

Science GPA: 3.82

GRE: didn't take it

ICU experience: 2 years by the time school starts

RN: 5 years by the time school starts

CCRN: didn't have time to take it before I applied

ACLS, BLS, and taking PALS this spring

Serve on the hospital's Ethics Committee

Had a great interview!

I would recommend taking your CCRN before you apply, it will give you an edge. They asked me about it in the interview. Obviously, though, you can get in without it. In order to boost your resume, join a committee at work (Unit Based Practice Committee for example) or teach ACLS/BLS as it will show you are invested in your RN practice. Also, take the opportunity to orient new employees or precept students. If your GPA is weak, you can take a couple generic graduate level nursing classes to show you can handle the riggers of the program; it is important to do well in these classes, so don't take them lightly. Shadow a CRNA and talk with as many as you can outside the OR. I had a current CRNA look over my personal statement and resume before I submitted them.

In my opinion, what helped me the most was talking with CRNA's, they are full of advice and they've been there before. I was fortunate enough to know a current student in the program, and talking with her before my interview helped me understand the school better. I mentioned our conversation in my interview and they liked that I did a little research into the program. Thanks to the advice of a current CRNA, I also researched current events in the field (the conversion to DNP programs in 2025 and the proposed re-certification exam starting in 2015) and it was the major topic in one of my interviews. They have some set interview questions (Why anesthesia? Why this school? How have you prepared? Tell me about yourself) but mostly it is a conversation that goes where you take it. Prepare enough to have something to talk about. My interview was very casual, the professors did a good job making me feel welcome, like they actually wanted to talk with me (a panel interview I had at a different school didn't feel as friendly).

Please remember that everyone is different and someone with better "stats" may not get in due to a bad interview or bad luck. Don't get discouraged. If you didn't get in this year, call the school and ask what you can do to make your application stronger next year. And remember, if asked in an interview what you will do if you don't get in, the answer is: "I will apply next year!"

DuluthRN I agree with you in regards to completing the CCRN. I forgot to mention that.

Specializes in CV/Thoracic ICU.

I was accepted and will be starting this fall too! Where is everyone coming from and what kind of ICU are you guys working in? I will have 2 years of nursing and cardiac surgical ICU experience when school starts. My husband is currently in the program at MSA and we just moved to the twin cities this past July from Oklahoma. Looking forward to meeting everyone!

Just paid my enrollment fee! Congratulations to everyone. Can't wait to meet you all next fall. I don't think there is any kind of orientation meeting before August, but we should all get together for a beer sometime before we start this wild ride. I still can't believe this is actually happening!

Hey!!

I'm also accepted into the class! I would love to get together & meet everyone before classes. I currently work in the twin cities at Regions Hospital and live down in Lonsdale (by Northfield). I can't believe this is happening...now just the anticipation & a long 27 months together :)

Can't wait to meet everybody!!
