Loma Linda University School of Nursing is pleased to announce the accreditation of the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist program in the Graduate School of Nursing! We were notified Friday, January 21st of our official accreditation by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). We are aware of the large interest shown in our program and hope to attract any eligible applicants who embrace the lifestyle and values of Loma Linda University.

The application to the Nurse Anesthesia Program will be available online Feb 1st, 2011. The application can be found online at www.llu.edu/apply. Please take the time to review the updated Nurse Anesthesia Brochure. There have been some minor changes to the Admission Requirements. The application deadline is April 1, 2011.

Priority Admission will be granted by invitation only. If chosen, applicants will be notified by email and letter in early March. Criteria reviewed by the Admissions Committee for Priority Admission are as follows:

o Exceptional academic performance

• Quality clinical experience
  
• Outstanding recommendations
  
• Completed application by March 1, 2011
  

Standard Admission Interviews will be held April 20-21, 2011. Invitations to interviews will be sent via email and letter in early April. Those applicants granted an Admissions Interview will be expected to take the Health Science Reasoning Test (HSRT) prior to their interview date. Out of area applicants are asked to take the HSRT on their interview date prior to interview.

For those interested in more information about the program or applying, there is a University Open House scheduled for Feb 13, 2011. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. If you can not attend the Open House, you can RSVP for our March 3, 2011 graduate information session.

Usually LLU wants students who will respect and understand the sda principles. That does not mean they have to be sda. Feel free to message me if you have any questions; hopefully i can answer them.:)

It seems to me that "respect and understanding" is one thing, while "embracing" is another thing altogether. They require a letter of recommendation from a spiritual advisor or pastor; do they not welcome atheist applicants?

I can't speak directly to the CRNA program, but when I was attending (school of public health) I had classmates from a few religious faiths as well as a few without. LLU builds all of their programs and curriculum around Christian principles. So anyone who applies must keep in mind that even if they aren't required to take bible classes they will still have concepts from the bible incorporated in all of their classes.

I can safely say after attending the open house for LLUMC that any atheist that wants to get accepted should make friends with a pastor who will write a glowing letter of recommendation. Then I would never admit that I was an atheist. The Dean of Medicine was the main speaker (the "open house" was a mini worship service, held in the sanctuary with songs o_O), and he said people that were not 'spiritual' should consider other options for higher education. So yeah... I don't think you have a very good chance of being admitted if you are openly atheist. I could be wrong, but that was the definite vibe I was getting.

I went to the interview session and have applied. I remember that before the info session the dean spoke with us and told us that all faiths are welcomed and encouraged to apply. Loma Linda is a great school and I am surprised to hear anyone say anything negative about the school, or program. Anyone who isn't interested in attending a religious institution doesn't have to. There are plenty of other schools out there that may be a better fit if you don't think Loma Linda is wonderful!
