Kaiser anesthesia (kpsan) 2018

  1. Hi everyone!

I just wanted to start a post for those who are applying for CRNA school at Kaiser. The program is now a DNP. They added one more year and a whopping 60K increase in tuition fee. Having that said, I am still on the process of application (awaiting for 1 more recommendation letter).

I just want a support system since this will be my first time and I really want to be accepted in the program. I am currently living in NY but I would love to move back home (Cali) and I told myself that getting accepted in to the program is the only reason I would go back. -_-

    Questions:
    1. Did anyone got deterred with the recent changes in the program?
    2. Would it be a good year to apply? [first year for DNP]
    3. What makes a good candidate? STATS would be appreciated.

    My STATS
    3.7 GPA
2 YRS CTICU (by the start of program] big academic hospital in NY
    1 yr in MICU (LA)
    2 YRS MEDSURG (LA)

never the head of a committee but a member .. My stats are not as great as other applicants but still hoping for a shot.

    Good luck everyone!

I decided not to apply to this school. Initially it was my first choice because it was only 24 months and dirt cheap, not to mention they are a wonderful program. The cost of living of course offset that a bit. They have an incredible reputation, and a good friend of mine got in last year and loves it. However, I applied elsewhere and accepted a position at Gonzaga University. Cost of living is incredibly affordable, tuition around 85k for a 3 year DNAP. I just couldn't justify spending 90k, 3 years for DNP, AND paying Pasadena rent. I understand when you graduate that you will make great money, but that's just an insane amount of student loans you'd have to take out. AND you can't work while you're in the program.

I met with the program director as part of the application process and he said that I would for sure get an interview if I decided to apply. My stats are:

    4.0 GPA
    New grad directly into ICU
4 years mixed ICU (Med/Surg, Neuro, Trauma (Level I university hospital), Transplant, Cardiac)
    Charge RN
    Preceptor
Rapid Response / Code Team Nurse
Member of Partnership Council (unit based committee that sets standards / unit goals)
Chair and co-creator of Education Committee (created new hire orientation and trauma education course that consists of didactic and hands on equipment training)

Hope this helps, and good luck to you on your application!!!

hi Delmel1, thank you for your response!
I just submitted my application so not breathing till mid December. Hopefully I atleast get an interview so I can justify myself. LOL

My unit is saturated with high achieving nurses (like yourself) that I get by just being a member. Hopefully my community outreach involvement will be enough.

    Congratulations on getting Gonzaga University

    Hi mgfam,
I just submitted my application. (fingers crossed) is this your first time applying mgfam? do you mind sharing your stats? I don't even know if I will get an interview.

I applied despite recent changes, but I know of people reconsidering for reasons specific to them. With that being said, being a student the first year of a new program in any school/field of study is going to have some bumps in the road.

    @Fentanyl_CA, BSN, RN,

I noticed this is your second time applying. What did you do to make yourself more competitive this time around? This will be my first time.

I see! Well it sounds like you really improved your application with those things! Was that recommended to you by the director during the counseling session?
