Nursing Students SRNA

I plan on applying to CRNA school this year but I'm trying to figure out if I'll even be considered. I've been a RN since 2011 and started working in the MICU at a large academic teaching hospital last year in June. So here's what I have

Nursing GPA 3.38

Chem B

Anatomy and physiology B

GRE

Verbal 147

Math 150

(waiting on writing score)

I only have CMSRN. I plan to get CCRN as soon as I can.

And experience I will have 2 years nursing, in addition to 1.5-2 years ICU experience depending on when I start.

I'm considering re-taking the GRE to hopefully score a little higher. I know I slightly missed the recommended scores for Samford and a few others.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Stats and ICU experience are almost identical to mine. I did have my CCRN though and got interviews at 5 schools this year. I wouldnt worry about re taking the GRE, it's overrated. Get that CCRN and possibly retake an anatomy or an advanced chemistry and you should be good to go.

Yeah i think you have a pretty good shot.. depends on the other applicants where your applying.. One thing i would say is spend a lot of time making your Paper Awesome and really explaining why you would be a great CRNA and how bad you want it!.. also get some people you know will write great letter of recommendations and that will help!.. and its likely you could get an interview.. then all you have to do is blow them out of the water with the interview.. I would say Apply everywhere you could see your self going to.. even if it's a good ways away its not all about GPA.. i had a 3.8 overall GPA and got an interview at sanford but didn't get in and did not even get an interview at Tennessee Chattanooga.. but my bud i worked in the icu with had like a 3.3 and he got an interview.. so it's not all about grades luckily i had applied everywhere and ended up getting into UAB so that's the main thing! good luck!

Your stats are close to mine. I applied and interviewed at 6 schools, accepted at 2, alternate at one, denied at two and waiting to hear from the other. Granted, my interview skills aren't that great. I didn't apply to really competitive schools and I also have my CCRN, which I think was a great help, due to my minimum ICU experience.

Well that's good to hear. I was concerned after I got my GRE scores and saw they didn't meet the minimum requirements for some schools. I will def get the CCRN as soon as I qualify.

Yeah I'm going to see if I can ask some of my coworkers who got in if I can see their letters they submitted. I think I've gotten better with interviews but I'll study hard and hope for the best!

Hey,I am planning on applying to crna schools as well, and I have been working in the micu for about 1.5 yrs. I was wondering if my stats were good enough for getting into crna school, I have a lower nursing gpa but I also have a degree in biochemistry. Here are my stats:

BSN gpa: 3.23

Biochemistry : 3.68 (probably a higher science gpa)

I plan to take my ccrn soon and I'm debating about taking the GRE's. I'm trying to avoid it because I'm not a good standardized test taker.

I'm looking to apply to UAB's CRNA school and I have the following stats:

Nursing GPA (last 60 hours): 3.85

Science and Chemistry GPA: 4.0

GRE: 150 quantitative/ 152 verbal

Experience: 2 years critical care/ surgical intensive care

I have precepted students and new employees.

I am set to take CCRN next month.

How do these stack up to people applying to CRNA school at UAB?

Your stats look great for UAB. You wont even get an interview without a 3.4 GPA. You'll definitely get an interview, it's up to you to nail it. Good luck!

Does your school have a minimum requirement for the GRE? The school I applied to requires >302 total and they basically told people that they pretty much toss your application if you don't meet that requirement... Maybe with a few VERY RARE exceptions.

150 on each is the average score of accepted students...I've heard of people making less and more and getting in

Just thought I'd update the progress on my application process.

So far I've applied to 9 schools. I was rejected right away from 3. I interviewed at 2 (and got rejected after the interview at one, still waiting to hear from the other). I have another interview scheduled in September.

And I'm waiting to hear from the other 3.

Since I originally posted I got my CCRN. I was rejected by the 1st 3 before I got it. I haven't been denied an interview since receiving it. I haven't retaken the GRE but I may consider doing so if I don't get into the school I just interviewed at.

I will also consider taking an advanced patho class to help my application.
