How did you afford CRNA school and do you have any advice for me?

Nursing Students SRNA

I am a LPN I make a little over 86k/yr, when I finish my bachelors later this year(currently doing it online) it will increase to 113k/yr. I am not able to save money I do not know what it is. On top of that I have bad credit. Just a year ago I had excellent credit. Over 730. Now I believe it is 500 something all because Im bad with paying bills that I was mailing checks back to instead of paying online or through an automatic payment option. BC of my job (7 overnights/wk) I really do not think about anything else besides my job and my time and sleep. I have to sleep during the mornings into the early afternoons and I take another nap around 6-7pm until 1030 for work at 11pm. I know no one hear is likely to be a financial advisor but how can I afford CRNA school with bad credit and not able to save money? Is there a way to take out a school loan with bad credit? Military or co signer is not an option. I also take care of my friend who is not working and all of their expenses, food, haircuts, phone bill, toiletries, you name it. look at that friend as equivelant to having a few kids. So imagine I am a single mom juggling night shifts and kids and school. What would be your advice. Idk how I would afford 2 years of school plus food and rent/board. Please help. Hopefully 2-3 years working on my bsn/icu experience improves my credit a little more. I am now on top of my bills paying online or by phone.

By the content/grammar I can't help but think someone is trolling.... I can't imagine someone being this irresponsible, and considering a career where you will be responsible for another person's LIFE.

There are some big issues discussed in this thread... They go beyond simply mismanaging money.

If you are being serious, than I applaud you for seeking help and advice. Please be careful.

Why don't you find my other threads to discover if I'm "trolling". No one else had a problem with content or grammar if they did they correctly kept it to themselves. Even every CRNA interview asks you how you will afford school so i am confident that you know 100% nothing of the importance of this "content". I honestly don't know where you get off saying my issue is not big or not important. It is related to saving for a nursing program. You dont know me and will not determine whether or not I get into school. I received high honors in English so if you are quick to judge someone because of a few grammatical errors as if it never happened to you, I can also express worry about whatever profession you chose. Someone who takes ONE post and has that person all figured out. Is that how you treat your patients? I'm not buying your last statement that you added to be anything but an excuse to be able to argue against my potential reply later. It directly contradicts your statement of my question being much less important than the "big issues here". Whatever that means. How dare you say this isn't a big issue? Irresponsible? I TAKE CARE OF THE PEOPLE I LOVE financially and you can't imagine me taking care of another persons life??? Here's news for you, I have a life in my hands 57 hours a week minimum and I am the best nurse to do what I do. I don't know anyone that can do what I do. I don't EVER expect my patient to have another nurse that sacrificed as much as I have for him. For some odd reason you think every nurse that became a CRNA was perfect and had no flaws. None had financial issues according to your understanding right? Because you know every CRNA and you know everything about my capabilities. I may not take great care of myself but I am damn good at what I do and I have what it takes to be a CRNA despite what you think. It is disgraceful, your whole post. I see the real troll here and they need to go troll elsewhere.

...so i am confident that you know 100% nothing of the importance of this "content".

Is it possible to know 100% of nothing? Wouldn't I just know.....nothing?

Anyways... I never said your financial issue is not important, I think there are bigger themes underlying your post. Another one has been revealed from your response: From what I understand, an advanced nursing degree will demand many things from a student... one requirement is thick skin. You've got to be confident in yourself and let comments/criticism roll off your back. A 20 sentence (single paragraph) defense will not earn accolades with your clinical instructors.

I received high honors in English so if you are quick to judge someone because of a few grammatical errors as if it never happened to you

I'm not judging, but adcoms will DEFINITELY judge you for a few grammatical errors.

Of course. Sentences ending like "absolutely nothing" just doesn't make sense wouldn't you just know nothing?! You really don't scare me. Taking defense doesn't mean I won't make it through clinical, it means I don't take **** especially from people who dont know anything about what they are talking about. I am confident in myself.Did you miss the part where I said I know I have what it takes? No, criticism doesn't roll off here, I take criticism, and I will learn in clinicals from criticism FRON CLINICAL INSTRUCTORS. From your "criticism", I will learn nothing and I will roll all of your no good opinions off my back actually. "I'm not judging".. really?. I definitely don't listen to people who lie/don't own up. I'm going to make it into a program without adjusting myself to your standards. You seriously are snooping around here looking for people to insult? Your very first sentence in this second post says a lot about you. Do you know why you wrote that? Do you know why you're insulting me? Are you going to lie and say it is not insulting? You are very unhappy inside and I sorry but that has nothing to do with me. You have anonimity, you feel safeguarded or whatever, but that doesn't give you a right to breeze around here looking to attack people for your own personal gain. I came here for advice, what you have said so far is not advice. If your brain sees it that way I feel very bad for you. No one else is moderating around here making comments like yours...did you not see that?

Just to clarify, Adminitration is not the "language police". All we ask is that you not post entirely in text-speak, all CAPs (which can be considered yelling). We do not judge your grammar although others may and we ask that they do not judge others when they post.

This is just to let ya'll know we don't sit around looking for incorrect grammar/spelling, etc. Just post so others can read what you are trying to convey and enjoy. :)

Oh, and one other thing .... don't fight with each other. If you find yourself becoming irritable with another member, just back off, leave the thread, take a breather.

We have what is called an "ignore" list here at AN. Members can use this and place another member on this ignore list where you will not see their posts.

If you find yourself becoming annoyed with another member and going at each other back and forth, it takes the thread off-topic and can cause problems. Sometimes it ends up having staff close the thread for a cooling off period or closed permanently. So, all we ask is that you show mutual respect, try to get along, stay on topic, and enjoy yourself as you educate one another; asking for advice, giving helpful opinions.

Thanks. :)

You asked for advice, I did not give it in a respectful, or even a clear way. I am sorry.

From what I hear from successful SRNA's is that they have their ducks in a row prior to school.... financially, personally, relationships, etc. I was concerned from your posts that you have a ways to go. You don't know where $2k goes every month? Your friend the "brat" gets mad at you when you don't let him use your car to buy a Playstation, and yet you financially support him?

Like I said, I applaud you for seeking advice, I wish I would have not been condescending when I gave it. Good luck to you.

LOL @ "language police"! Never heard that before.

Just trying to lighten up the thread :-)

There is an ignore function.

There is an ignore function.

Yes, please read the post Administration made about the ignore feature above. It really works IF once you place a member on the ignore list, you don't "peek" to see what they say; it defeats the purpose of the ignore feature. I used this for approx. 1 year on a member and finally removed from my ignore list. I found out this person didn't change, but I did. I was wiser and able to read what I wanted and ignore the rest. It does help ..... but don't peek. :)
