GRE score for getting an Interview

  1. I wanted to open up a discussion about how much admissions committees weigh GRE scores when offering interviews. Any insight would be helpful! Is it possible to get into school with excellent stats but a weak GRE?

It's possible. Most programs want greater than 300, but some of my classmates said they didn't meet the minimum and were accepted.

I will say that some schools do not care about GRE at all

This school does not require GRE at all. Give it a try.

It's juat one factor that can help or hurt you. I had a low first degree GOA, but had a very good BSN GPA and a high GRE. I think the high second GPA and high GRE helped me overcome the poor first GPA. If I had a low GRE maybe the school would have been more careful in questioning my academic ability? A high GRE won't get you in and a low one won't keep you put, but it can raise or drop you over applicants that you are competing with for a spot.

i think it depends on the school. i have great GRE scores, but an average GPA for my BSN.. i played soccer in college, so i didn't put as much time into school as i should have. i also have 4 years ICU in top level hospitals in 3 different states, great recommendations, did very well on my CCRN, and i didn't get an interview this year. granted i only applied to one program, but i thought i'd have a fair shot to at least interview!

Old Dominion, for example, does place some emphasis on GRE scores. Their minimum requirement on the website is over 300 but they really like to see each section very close or above 50% percentile.

Don't really know about that I am interviewing at ODU with a GRE score less than 296
