So which is the best program/school in regards to clinical - rotations, hours. etc. I am especially curious when it comes to availability of cases. I hear that sometimes, when you go to these big universities and big teaching hospitals, the bigger and more complex cases go to the anesthesia residents. Also, which program/school have you seen in general, best prepare you clinically when you graduated? Thank you in advance!
There is no "best" program. Hours vary, but if that is a concern, anesthesia may not be for you. Look for places that don't intersect too much with residency training programs. Plenty out there, but that isn't a deal breaker. OHSU is pretty strong clinically and there is some intersection there. I suspect that there are others. I'd say a 40/60 mix residency program/srna training program is tolerable.
Students need regular experience with big ugly cases and usually the big houses are where those are.
