Becoming a CRNA

Students SRNA

Published

I am a BSN student in GA- graduation date May 2019. I thrive off the number of lives, I positively touch every day. I aspire to become a CRNA. I just completed my first semester of nursing school. I was 100% certain I wanted to become a nurse anesthetist. Then I meet a few...they have so much debt. I am starting to reconsider due to the amount of debt rumored to accumulate from graduate/ post school. Yet my friend attempts to reassure me that our local "Grads school practically throw scholarships for you to come study." If someone could shred some light on the CRNA career/education pros and cons. I am aware every school is different. Please share a piece of your journey (the pros, the cons, would you do it all over again...any regrets)?

Lol I'd love to hear of CRNA schools that are throwing money at students! Yes, you will have debt. More than $100k most likely. That being said, it's possible to pay it off quickly on a CRNA salary (and OT pay if you want) if you don't live extravagantly when you first start working.

Just don't increase your spending until your loans are paid and it'll be paid in a year or two. ;)

No one is throwing money at you. I graduate in May and will have 200K in debt when all is said and done. Nurse anesthesia is one profession where you can realistically pay off the debt within 5 years (with proper budgeting). Don't let the debt stop you, but plan on living an impoverished lifestyle for a bit as well.

Thank you for your prompt response! I was always told if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is not true! Lol
