Ok, so I'm finally ready to take the plunge and go to NP school. My only problem is that I cannot decide what I want to do. I currently have ER and ICU experience. All in a tertiary hospital setting. I want to advance my career. Initially, my goal was CRNA but that is not an option right now because I cannot afford the program or commitment at this time. So I am looking for something that pays really well and I would be happy doing. I am interested in leadership positions, acute and primary care. Because of this I am totally confused. I would love to manage or be a director of some sort. My other options is to see patients in an orthopedic office and possibly round on them in the hospital setting and assist an ortho surgeon in the OR on my patients. I don't really know my options and would appreciate any help or advice. My ideal salary would be close to or more than $100,000. This is not a priority of mine but important because I want my wife to be able to stay home and raise our children. She works so hard and deserves the break. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to Allnurses! I would suggest, respectfullly, that, if you don't know what you want to do, you're not "ready" to go to NP school. Graduate programs in nursing pretty much lock you into a specific role and career path, and it's worth putting the time and effort in "up front" to ensure you're pursuing a degree that is going to get you where you want to go. Once you figure out what you (most) want to do with your career, it will be clear what further education you need in order to be able to do that. Best wishes!
