Waitlisted at Frontier Univ...in shock, any advice?

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

I have been a registered nurse in a well-baby nursery for 4 years. I completed my BSN 2 years ago and graduated with a 4.0 GPA. My dream was to attend Frontier to be a Women's Health NP.

I applied as soon as I was able to and recently found out I was waitlisted. I never, in my wildest dreams, thought that I would be waitlisted with a 4.0. I applied to 2 other schools as a back-up plan and was accepted at both, even received a scholarship at one. Frontier was my first choice and this is the one that hurt when I didn't get in.

I have heard that some students are waitlisted, but offered admission to a later class...I didn't even get that. I just got waitlisted altogether.

I am ashamed to say that I cannot stop crying over this. Does anyone have any advice?

While it sucks to not get into the program that was your first choice, it is not the end of the world. You said yourself that you applied to 2 other BACK UP PLAN schools. You were smart to do so.

If your dream is to be a Women's Health NP then go to one of your backup schools. If your dream was to go to Frontier... then you need to reapply next year. (I am pretty confident that your dream is the former, not the latter)

So I say you should give yourself 1 more day to wallow in your misery and then pick yourself up and move on. Your dream is still within reach. Decide which of the 2 other schools will be a good choice for you and then celebrate that you have been accepted and are one step closer to achieving your dream!!

Well, I won't have a choice but to go to one of the other schools. I just wished, some type of reason existed.

Call and ask the reason. The worst thing that could happen would be to not get an answer. This leaves you in the same position of not knowing. The best that could happen would be that you find out the reason.

I wouldn't let it bother me too much. I think that you were smart to apply to a few schools, and I think you are blessed to get a scholarship. Maybe God (if you will) has something better for you. Sometimes an alternate road turns out to be the best road to take. So my advice is to not put too much more energy into it if you can..get all your crying out and then get excited about one of the other two schools. As long as you make it out as an Awesome NP that is all that matters :). Best wishes honey and cheer up! You are way further ahead than some. Some did not get accepted at all or wait listed

Thank you everyone for the words of support.

I guess what is surprising me the most, is I could understand, if my academic profile was deficient. I had others to look over the two statements that I had to write, both DNP prepared nurses. Maybe I don't understand what type of student they were looking for.

Don't under-estimate the weight of your essay and letters of recommendation. They are often just as important as GPA. Additionally, some programs try to create a diverse environment and there may have been just too many of your age, gender, race, etc. in this particular class. It might have had nothing to do with anything in your control. Best of luck to you.

...this actually makes more sense.

So are you feeling better now?

Jory if you are still bothered I would call the admissions department and ask them what would make you a more competitive candidate for their school. You may get a specific response or you may get a generic response but hey give it a shot...what do you have to lose?

On the bright side you have two other options! You just got redirected to a different path but still it is the same outcome in the end. Congrats on your other two acceptances!!
