Vanderbilt Grad Entry 2013

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

Hey everyone!

This thread is for all of those out there who are planning on applying to one of Vanderbilt's MSN programs for Fall 2013. I'm starting to get my application packet together. I haven't started my interview survey questions and goal statement yet but I need to get on it. I need to take the GRE still though. Has anyone taken that? What did you get? Did you study? Harder than you thought?

Let's help each other get into their program!

@MrSensitivity Thanks!

Has anyone looked into the admitted student requirements?

Anyone going to start these ahead of time?

I think you can get the physical exam / health questionaire sent in now, along with the proof of health insurance and CPR card, but they don't want the background investigation to be submitted until 90 days prior to matriculation (about May 19).

Are you going to start getting these done and sent in now or wait to do them until later?

From what I understand, these are requirements for clinical. For the ACNP program, clinicals start mid first semester. This gives most students time to do this during the start of the semester, perhaps at the Student Health Center for cheap.

Do you know if we can give them a copy of an immunization record for validation of vaccinations? That'd be ideal for most ppl. I'm going to email admitting to make sure.

I emailed L.B., who does the clinical placement, and she said that an updated immunization card and/or titer results will suffice for the clinical requirements. Good news for a lot of us.

5 months away!

Having been through the process of applying, has anyone become aware of how selective the grad entry (for BSN-prepared nurses) programs are? Specifically for the psych specialty, or in general. Thanks. :)

I would like to know more about the psych speciality too! Thank you in advance to anyone who responds. :)

Hi! I am a current psych NP student in this program. In regards to selectivity, the program is quite competitive, but worth a try with applying, considering they truly look at the applicant as a whole package. Psych is one of the only specialties that requires an interview (fortunately it is a telephone interview).

Please let me know what specific questions that you have! You can PM me too.

I have been accepted into the psych specialty for fall 2013, and it is selective but i agree with the comment above. It is definitely worth applying. They really take the time to go over each and every aspect of every applicant.

HI Vandy056 and freeornearly,

I am looking at the Psych program starting 2014 and My GE scores are 153V 152Q and 4.0A. Should I just retake GRE or focus on other aspects of the application? I plan on submitting the application sometime in October;

Thanks

Ari

Hi aritakum, I'm starting the pre specialty program for psych this fall and my gre scores were just a little bit above yours. I do think they look at the whole application; however they also have minimum qualifications that you must meet to get an interview. I was told by a faculty member that they interview all applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. I was wait listed but ended up getting in. Good luck!
