I, too, start the DNP program in August. I'm in the dual Acute care/Family track. I'm getting really nervous as August approaches. 2BlessedRN, I work at Methodist University as well, but in the MICU. I have been a nurse for 3.5 years, but only been at Methodist for a year and a half. As far as my stats, other than being a nurse for 3 and a half years, I was a critical care respiratory therapist for two years before going to nursing school. I, too, had great recommendations and a 3.5 GPA. I'm also certified as a CCRN.
Hello theonly321, I work nights on 4 east. It's good to see I'll know some people. I also met someone from 7 east who would be starting in August for acute care. It's also a 2nd year student on the same floor. Theonly321 how are you doing your work schedule? At first I was thinking PRN but I may try part time.

I will be working full time days (hopefully! Working nights now) till December. I plan to reevaluate the situation at that time. Ideally, I'd like to go PRN, as I have another job that I'm starting mid June that will allow me to work from home reading video capsule endoscopy results for GI specialists. However, I'll just have to see how it all works out. Being in the dual program, I think it's going to be very difficult to maintain full time work status throughout the program, at least that's what I was told by the interview committee. I'm glad to be meeting a few people already. I don't really know anyone else entering any of the programs, except for one person starting the CRNA program in June.

I think I'll be doing the same thing by going prn in January. I have a friend in the program now and she's had clinic Friday day and works Friday night. There's no way I'm going to do that. I don't know how people worked full time with the dual program and maintained the grade point average that you have to keep. Too stressful for me!

Yeah, I did similar stuff during my RN program. Worked 7p till 7a as an RT and then went straight from work to class. I don't plan on doing anything like that again. I also know someone in the dual program and he worked full time at the MED the entire first year. So, it can be done. I just don't want to do it.

Hey 2BlessedRN and everyone on this forum! I have my interview tomorrow for the new PNP-DNP program.. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions, hints, advice for me.

Background, I have been a pediatric nurse for 2 years, I worked on the Neurosurgery floor for 1.5 and now I am in the Neuro-ICU. I'm not usually nervous about interviews but a co-worker told me that the interview is very intense.

Thank you so much ahead of time!

My interview was more like a job interview for the dual track program. Questions like why I wanted to be a DNP, why I chose UTSHC, strengths and weaknesses, where I saw myself in 5 years, etc... Then I had to type an essay in 30 minutes that was timed. There were a few different questions to chose from for the essay and that was pretty much it for me. There was also somebody from the previous class that was there to answer any of my questions about the program from a student perspective. Hope that helps!

Hey Layna522, don't be nervous. My interview was very laid back. Some of the questions they asked me and I think everyone else are:
    1. Why UT? Why you want to do this? Why now?
    2. What are your weakness and strengths?
    3. Have you ever attended an online program?
    4. Have you published anything?
    5. What can you do to improve your weakness?
    6. In the last program you attended, what classes were the hardest and what was the easies?
    7. How did you get through the hard classes?

You're going to do great. If you got an interview, they must have saw something they liked. My interview was very laid back. I will admit I was nervous, but it went great. I hope the questions above help. I know I'll be seeing you in August. Keep us updated. Also where do you work?

I wish they provided us with a current student. For my essay I didn't even know it was timed and was stopped in the middle of it. I can see we had some of the same questions.
