Hello,

I'll be starting my MSN Advanced Nurse Practitioner @ University of Cincinnati Distance Learning Program on January 2013 for the Spring Semester 2013. It would be great to know if anybody is currently enrolled in the same program.

Thanks!

Hi, I began the ANP program Fall 2012. I will be taking patho/physiology and healthcare policy Spring 2013 semester.

How was it? I'll be taking the Patho/Physio too this Spring 2013 with Biostatistics.

Went well. I have taken Biostatistics and Research. Once you get familiar with blackboard and what to expect in the courses it was great. You have to be disiplined though and spend plenty of time studying. Be prepared for the Patho/Physiology because it goes over a lot of content very quickly. Have you signed on to blackboard yet and glanced over this course? I'm Travis by the way.

Hi Travis,

I'll be starting the UC FNP program Summer 2013 and just had a few questions for you: I noticed you said you took Biostatistics and Research - is that Research and Best Evidence for Clinical Reasoning (NURS8006)? Just wondering if those were taken out of sequence (I guess I'm wondering if we're able to take them out of sequence?)

I think the program is great and I've heard really good things about it, but I am wondering what you all think about the fact that there is no type of skills meeting to learn suturing or any special procedures? I asked about this and was told that we should just have our preceptor teach it to us. All the other programs I've seen have an intensive on-campus meeting to address things like this - just wanted to see what everyone thought and what they were planning on doing to supplement.

Also, does anyone know if we are allowed to take a summer semester off during the program (delay Summer classes until the Fall)?

Sorry for so many questions - thanks in advance :)

Yes, I did take them out of sequence. Due to personal circumstances I sit out of the program for a couple years but had already taken Biostatistics and Research was the only class offered last semester that I could take. This has caused me to be off track until next fall. It is my understanding though that you have to take the courses exactly as they have them in your cohort (except if you get off track like I did).

I have been pleased with the program so far. I am not sure about the special procedures. I haven't even thought about that lol.

I don't know about taking the summer off either. I would talk to Yaunee Roulac and she would be able to answer all of thos questions for you. She has been so helpful. Do you have her contact information? I don't have it at the moment but let me know if you need it.

Thanks for the info! Have you started looking for potential preceptors? That is definitely one of the things that is scaring me at the moment.

I am thinking about applying to the adult np program for fall 13 semester. Are all of you still pleased with the program so far? I know it has only been a short time, but wondering if you all have had a good experience so far with the whole process.

Yes, I started back in January. There is a large clinic in town with almost every specialty and Ive already talked to them about doing my clinicals there. I was scared too because I have heard so much about it being hard to find preceptors. I have not completed all the paperwork yet though. Been so busy with this semester I haven't had the time. Just give yourself plenty of time to secure a preceptor and be asking around.

I am starting the MSN/ANP DL program August 26th 2013 and I am a bit nervous. How is it going for all of you. Still yet to hear from my academic advisor as far as registration and my class schedule.

What do you suggest as far as which classes to take first (for those in the ANP course)? and just any advise in general. Thanks!

Hi, I was just accepted to the FNP for fall 2013, other than the acceptance email, have not heard anything. Have you?? Not sure who to contact or what the next steps are. Guess I really expect a little more information than a simple email.

Hey,

there were some instructions in the email about who to contact and so forth. Perhaps you can contact your enrollment adviser and ask her what the next steps to take are. I already contacted mine and I am waiting for a response.

I am Bolawa by the way in North Carolina. Where are you from?
