UAB Summer 2014

Nursing Students NP Students

I've been lurking here, looking to see if anyone would be starting a thread on the UAB MSN cohort for Summer 2014. Nobody has yet, so I'm doing it!

Application deadline is October 28th! Is anyone else applying to start next summer? I've applied to the WHNP program, and have gnawed my fingernails down to nubs over it.

Nothing again here in the mail. Curious, did the ones here that rec' d their acceptance letters, kinda already think they were in because they were able to already see it on Blazernet?(Beyond registering, you could also log in prior to letter?)

I didn't receive anything yet today, either.

TheMolly: I was able to log in a few hours after I registered my blazernet ID and while I was relieved I also had doubts like what if I was wait listed. I just wanted a letter to confirm it. I had called one stop IT to find out what one of my holds meant earlier in the week and they said I was admitted dec 5th which is what my holds are dated as.

I hope you hear some good news soon! You were able to create an ID so I would take that as a positive sign!

FA2NS: let me know when you create one!

LLL8. Will do!

TheMolly: I was able to create an ID and see my assigned area of study so I too knew but needed the confirmation of a letter to ease my doubts.

So, I think that kinda confirms if you(I) can't log in by now, the denial letter is on the way. They prob thought I was too old. But I still have lots of years until retirement & really wanted this. I heard they actually prefer less experience. Bummer.

TheMolly: I wouldn't lose hope! I think they would prefer someone with more experience because you have a greater knowledge base!

FA2NS: are you confused about some of the forms you have to fill out by the 20th? The FERPA form requires a witness, does it have to be faculty? And the program of study sheet requires a signature of our advisor.

I was hopeful before but not anymore since the majority were able to log in. So down about expecting a denial letter in the mail tomorrow

LLL8: I just signed the forms and sent them as is, assuming they will sign the other areas.

TheMolly: I'm 41 so I don't think you're too old. Also, I have no experience as an RN. Just graduated with my BSN. My GPA is 3.97 and I've worked as a critical care tech for just over a year. I'm sure that ****** off a bunch of ppl which is why I hadn't posted it till now, but just goes to show that there is no set profile so don't lose hope.

Guys, try to remain positive until you hear otherwise. They still may be loading info. I know I sound like a broken record. If its a

"No" apply elsewhere. You will end up exactly where you are supposed to be. you can not give up. I am a second degree student. I have a BA. When I first applied to nursing school I was wait listed for an ABSN program and was never called off the wait list. I was DEVASTATED! My 3.3 GPA wasn't good enough. I was told to apply to traditional BSN but it started a year later bc I had missed the deadline. So, I applied to ADN programs and low and Behold not only did I get in but I got a full ride Scholarship! I busted my butt in my ADN program and made all As except for 2 Bs. I had a 4.0 Science GPA and a 4.0 in my RN-BSN bridge program which I obtained from the first school who turned me down! I went from rejected wait lister to 4.0! Oh, but it doesn't stop there i applied to USA FNP to start in January of 2014 With a 3.8 ADN - 4.0 BSN and 4.0 Science GPA to include Chem 1 and 2 which kicked my %## and I WAS DENIED FROM USA!!! This was about a month ago! My point is...Keep freaking trying if its a no. Don't give up!

LLL8, I signed POS and guess advisor will too. Perplexed on FERPA. Boyfriend says I need to get it notarized... I'm like WHAT?!?! I'm calling school bc that seems like its overkill...

UsA turned me down and my nursing GPA all in total is a 3.9! With a 4.0 science GPA. I guess they did not like my overall 3.1 from 2000 in corporate communication they scrutinized my grades I business and communication classes and ignored my science abilities. Hmmmmmm....I think it's because that's not where I was supposed to be!!!!

FA2NS,

Thanks for sharing your story. It was very inspiring. Don't know how you got turned down with those amazing numbers. But at least you are in now. I have put off applying to USA because I was hopeful about UAB. Now I may submit my app to USA after all
