UAB Fall 2012 Update

Nursing Students NP Students

Published

To all that have applied for a UAB NP program for Fall 2012, I received some news via email from one to the program directors. It turns out we will not be notified of acceptance or denial until the end of May! I thought the website said notification within 30 days of the deadline date. This is torture!! If anyone has any other info, please share.

I'm waiting to hear about my FNP application too. After reading the thread from last year's applicants anxiously waiting for admission, I realized it could still be a while, and if we're admitted we have to immediately get hopping to get everything going for school.

I also realized the admissions process gets random or maybe based on first-come-first-serve, with local 4.0 gpa CCRNs with killer letters of reference being put off a semester while 3.2 gpa folks from out-of-state got admitted.

That's no comfort for those of us waiting, but probably some for those who already know they weren't.

Does anyone know when the first "mulit-day intensive" happens in the program?

I live in a rural part of California, so if I'm admitted the travel planning is serious.

Anyone heard anything new?

Thanks

Nothing here, if that helps you. It helps me to know that there is not a packet out there lost in the mail somewhere.

I had a 3.9 in undergrad and I felt good letters of rec and I just got my rejection letter..

Oh man! I'm sorry. Do you have other good options? Thanks for posting right away so the rest of us can ready ourselves for the emotional roller coaster. If you didn't get in, I am not holding my breath.

I'm waiting for USA's letter, but I feel I don't have that much hope now..I applied two months before the deadline so maybe that's why I got rejected, who knows..

Well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you get in USA. You got this!!

I wish they'd give some reason, so you know. It must be that they are incredibly impacted or doing them in order of submission- in which case I am definitely out of the running. Maybe you could ask them why they decided against you? Maybe USA is using a different process where that gpa means more.

When I was reading other threads I saw one from someone really dejected about a rejection titled "Is it really this hard to get into grad school"?

Lots of people replied about how they re-applied and got in the next semester or took classes as a non-degree student, also other online schools to try, etc.

Once the impact wears off a bit, you should check it out.

I'm crossing my fingers for USA for you.

Just got my rejection for the FNP with a form to reapply for the Spring. I also have a 3.99, gushing letters of reference, 10 years of experience minus some child-rearing time, and have been told I write well. I did submit my application right before the deadline, so that probably counted against me since so many highly qualified people are applying.

I did already register for my second choice, which has more on-campus time and is 7 units longer, a serious difficulty for me in my remote area, so I will probably start there and weigh reapplying to UAB.

I'm disappointed but not as crushed as I would have been without the heads up from those of you who heard first.

Thanks for that and good luck to the rest of you.

I guess I'll be the first to say I got a packet in the mail for part time. I don't know if I want to ask if I can go full time. I want to finish and not drag on and on, but I also want to be able to really focus and absorb everything. I was in state with a competitive GPA on the last 60 hours, either 3.8 or 3.9 depending on how you calculate it and I took the GRE anyway. So, they have actually put them in the mail. =)

I just received my acceptance packet from UAB. I was accepted into the Adult/WHNP program for part time.
