UAB Advanced Pathophysiology

Hey everybody,

I am starting my MSN program this fall at UAB and had a couple questions regarding the Advanced Pathophysiology class. I am getting anxious some since I heard this class is very difficult, which is fine, but I would like to know what to expect from some of you that have taken this class at UAB. For example, are there many power points, video lectures etc. Also, what is the best way to study for this class, in your opinion? I have already received my textbook and just looking at it is daunting! I have also received the study guide, which I plan to work through some between now and when school starts to be "ahead of the game" somewhat. Thanks in advance for your responses!

I will be starting my last semester at UAB in the FNP program and I do believe they have revamped their Patho class. But you can expect to have video lectures, PPs, and yes lots reading from the textbook. I highlighted and tabbed my book, I think they use Advanced Pathophys by McCance. I liked the textbook thought it was well organized and made use of the online stuff that came with it ( like audio summary reviews). I recently found something I wish I had in my Pathphys class that is very good "Clinical Pathophysiology made ridiculously simple" by Dr. Aaron Burkowitz. I would recommend reading through that prior to starting the class. Hope you find this useful, goodluck. What track are you going to be in?

Thanks for the quick response and information! I already have my book and study guide, but didn't know about the online stuff that came with it; I will have to look later. I already have that book by Dr. Burkowitz; I am going to try and read it in the next month before classes start. I am in the psychiatric track.

I figured you were in the PMHNP track after I saw your screen name but you never know.

I'm in the PMHNP track myself and live south of Bham about 30 minutes... my book just came in on Friday... curious how you obtained your books and course info so early? They pushed back my orientation until the middle of last month and really threw me for a loop. I'm interested in networking with you or anyone else in this track. Let me know and good luck ;)

tyrn2012,

Somebody has created an MSN 2014 page on facebook and also a Psych NP page on facebook for us to network, and it's a great idea! That is how I found out what books we needed, somebody else gave me the information. Just search for UAB MSN Fall 2014 under facebook. This page is for all the MSN students at UAB starting in the fall and has many more members. Search UAB Psych/Mental Health NP 2014 for our psych NP group that starts this fall. My name is Chris, by the way. You should join the pages, just basic information being passed on now, but I'm sure it will pick up once school starts.

Thanks Chris... I have sent you a facebook request as well as applying to both groups you suggested. I am stuck on light duty for at least another week and trying desperately to get back to my 3/12's... I had it set up to work every S/M/T 7a-7p hoping this schedule would allow me enough time to tackle this program... scared as hell, but chomping at the bit as well ;)
