Hey,

Is anyone taking Advanced Assessment for Spring 2013 at TWU (Denton campus) for the FNP program? Or has anyone taken Advanced Assessment at TWU for the FNP program?

I wanted to get some feedback and incite on how this class will be and what to expect.

I have been told that there are 3 exams in the class. I also heard its manageable and the class meets once a week.

I start this course at TWU in Houston next Monday, Jan 14, 2013. I think you meet once weekly from 4:30pm-8:30pm. There are also clinical days that you will have to arrange with your own FNP/Dr to perform assessments in a clinical setting (that is announced in class). You will have to go to skills lab if I am not mistaken on certain set days. I think a genogram is one of the assignments, which I already done in my BSN program several years ago. I might redo mine since my family has expanded so if anyone knows of a decent program let me know please. I got the required books and I also got the Student Laboratory recommended book. I heard this comes in very handy to study for your tests.

I know this is a tough class and I am taking it as a solo course.

TB, background and drug testing supposed to be done prior to class. And, I think they want your immunization record also.

They allow you to go to skills lab to study with anyone you want to bring. Weird, but you have to wear closed toed shoes and wear professional attire, I don't think they let you wear scrubs there. I think there is an extra credit assignment- maybe that is where the genogram comes into play.

Good luck. Please keep me up to date with anything that you might learn about the course. My name is Kimberly. I would be glad to exchange any info as I learn anything new ([email protected]).

I see this thread is over two years old, but, I am supposed to take this class this fall, I'm trying to get my childcare arrangements in order now, as preschools fill up. Can you tell me when you went for skills lab? Was it one Monday a month? How was the course overall? Any insight you have to offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

None. If you must then avoid research. Role and promotion is what I took with it.
