Started Walden FNP program any do's or don't?

A friend of mine and I will begin the program as well beginning 3Dec2012. I have yet to find out any information. I also wanted to know if anyone knew how to go about getting certified in one of the states that doesn't recognize Walden as an accredited school. I live in a state that does, but may possibly move to a state that does not ... Can anyone help??

Hmmm...that's pretty darn low. I also read where they have like a 96% acceptance rate. I don't know which program that is for but that doesn't sound very selective.

No, I already knew that it was a degree mill, I just didn't realize how bad its attrition rate was. I can't believe that program is accredited anywhere. They accept everyone who applies. It's kind of a brilliant business plan. You accept everyone who applies, don't even have to provide them with training (make the students set up their own clinicals), and then you get to rake in the cash while the student is on the line for paying back the loans. No accountability whatsoever. This is the reason why other professions trash the NP field.

Programs like these also glut the market, which is problematic for obvious reasons. Also, employers are starting to smarten up and grads from these programs that have a "take anyone who is breathing" policy have a hard time getting hired. Anyway, if I were you I'd look at the area I'm interested in practicing in, and then attend the program that has the best reputation among employers. Do not waste your money on a program that doesn't set up your clinical training for you. Only look at programs that are from real universities.

Unfortunately most online NP programs don't arrange your clincals. This doesn't mean they aren't good programs. I have to attend online but fortunately the two programs I've applied to are well respected brick and mortar institutions...and by no means diploma mills. I agree though, Walden has red flags big time. US News & World Report is a good resource for evaluating colleges.

I started in the FNP program in September. Is that the class you are in? So far I think things are going ok. I feel the instructor is quick to answer questions. Still trying to figure out clinical sites. How's it going for you?

Most institutions require this. It makes sense. How can they possibly set up clinical assignments for students all across the US? Certain criteria have to be met and students are encouraged to begin looking early.
