I wanted to start this thread for all of the new (and current) students at Saint Joseph's College of Maine FNP program.

Any info, news, updates or questions/concerns could be asked here for all the new and current students.

Any advice that the current students can give us new students would be greatly appreciated :)

For example...

1. How many books are required for NU 501?

2. Has setting up clinicals been difficult?

3. Have the current students had any trouble communicating with your advisors? Do they get back to you promptly?

4. Overall, how has the experience been? Are you glad you are in this program?

How were the classes along with the clinicals a lot of busy work?? Any advice you can give since I am only starting my first round of clinicals? I know you mentioned you did not wait for a cohort however, I contacted SJC two weeks ago regarding starting my first round of clinicals and at that time I was told I would not be starting March 31st because there were not enough students to have the class! I was a little shocked but just waited it out and now have been recently told we will be starting March 31st. So Im not sure how they run the whole cohort situation. Thank you!!

That is great. So you're starting your first clinical round! Yes, it is a lot of work. I have taken both theory class and clinical class together at the same time. The theory class requires a lot of reading and writing. The clinical class also has requirements for clinical write ups, case discussion, and presentations, while you should upload all your cases in the Typhon system. Try to familiarize with ICD codes and CPT codes. Download a list of ICD codes that are most commonly used in primary care. Keep up to date with your clinical case upload. It is time consuming once you are backed up and try to catch up over the weekend or during your day off. Time management is crucial during the 15 weeks time period. Good luck!

Did you complete your capstone during the last semester with clinicals and theory?? I was planning on that however, haven't heard anyone's experience doing that. If clinicals/theory take up that much work I am wondering if its possible? Thank you so much for your time giving feedback!!

I'm currently working on the capstone. Capstones are 6 months courses. So I would recommend you to begin as early as you finish your first clinical courses. That will give you enough time to complete the graduation requirements almost at the same time when you are done with your clinicals.

Hello fellow students , I am taking NP 603 and find it difficult . Any advice from people who finished?? Concept maps are very hard and seems like the material is so wide to cover that 15 weeks course is not enough. Any suggestions?? Thank you
