South University online NP?

Nursing Students NP Students

If I remember correctly, their NP program was only available on campus not too long ago. How long has the online NP been established? Has anyone here on allnurses.com attended and graduated from the online program? If so, how was your overall experience?

Here's the link to the program webpage:

Would live to hear all of you guys thoughts! I searched allnurses for more info but it yielded no profitable results. Thanks!

Hey! trying to bring this back to life... just got into south, though they're accredited, im worried with online FNP i wont get a job :/ any thoughts? any advice welcomed!

finding preceptors is hard because in a year or so they may not be available what have they said about that?

not too worried about preceptors because husband works with many (he's first yr resident at general hospital)/i worked w some in ED. I just want to make sure jobs aren't looking at simply the school's name/ online programs have bad connotation. I'm a firm believer in experience/what you put into something you get out of... Worked in downtown, awful SICU/ER my whole nursing career so that experience gave me so much more knowledge than my BSN education from LSUHSC. I can't imagine with the healthcare changes upcoming a FNP will have troubles finding something?

I am thinking about applying to this school anytime now! How much will it cost for tuition all together? Can anyone give me feedback on how your classes are going? Thanks!

When I spoke to a rep. 2 months ago they told me 435 per credit which worked out to 30500 for the program

I took the plunge and have begun the application process. I won't finish my last BSN class until December 8th but they said they would help me get my packet all together and submitted for "provisional" acceptance so that as soon as my degree is conferred and they get my final transcript I could pretty much start that following month or so if accepted. I also applied to University of Cincinnati as well. The only thing is, my life is so busy working fulltime with three kids under age 9 that I prefer how South offers 1 class at a time back to back...just seems easier to do and can give full concentration to one course at a time instead of half-butting it when things get busy in life. =) That's my 2 cents though. They seem a bit cheaper as far as tuition compared to some universities and I like their online format that i looked at in the demo, it seems user friendly. I"ve been at Excelsior for 3 yrs so I"m fairly comfortable with APA writing, and online course work/discussions.

Hey I am interesting in South University online FNP program? How are you liking the program? Is it tough? I am a new member to allnurses so I cannot PM yet. Thanks.

lhflanurse,

I tried to do an IM but I cant figure it out. But I am very interested at asking you some questions. I have been hearing different things about locating preceptors. Can you share some light please. I spoke with an admission rep and they advised I shouldnt have a problem locating a preceptor.

Thanks

Not a problem. I was able to get my preceptors without too much trouble, but I live in a fairly small community and everyone I contacted was more than happy to help out. You get your preceptors before they accept you which to me is pretty lame...you don't start your clinicals until you are done with the MSN program. Since I got mine, one has passed away and one has closed due to cancer. I am not too concerned. I will start pounding the pavement for replacement spots in January...my clinicals will start in February. You can email me at [email protected].

I got in the program they called me Friday but if my three classes don't transfer over, I might just stay at the school I took the classes at. Shall see, because the other school the program director helps you find contact people to help with setting up clinicals, I don't think it makes sense to find preceptors over a year before you can actually work with them, people get sick or retire

Hi there, I saw your thread and you are very kind to give out your email. How is the paper writing going? How many per week are there usually? How are the tests? Do the instructors provide any decent blueprint for exams or are you on your own with a ton of reading? Are the tests proctored ie: Secure proctor? timed, open book or different formats for different classes? Are you able to work at all during this program and do you intend to double up on a few classes to shorten the time for graduation. Thanks so much for your answers...anything will help. BTW did you apply or consider any other program? I'm applying to UM and NSU. They seem like strong programs.
